Steam Deck Question
I’m thinking of getting a Steam Deck mostly for indie games but I also want to try out FFXIV and could see playing that also. Are you able just install from Steam now easily or do you have to use a lot of workarounds? My searches keep mentioning using a launcher and an install guide but a lot of that info is pretty old at this point.

You have to jump through some hoops to get the installer installed, then it works fine after that.

I've seen it work seamless and other people have tons of problems. My friend cant get the controller to work at all, even after many days of attempts. No idea what to further tell him, not sure if its an FFXIV issue or what, but it seems to work and sometimes not.

You often have to hit the Steam button at least once after logging in to get it to see the controller. Also make sure the toggle in the settings is switched to controller

Switch to Desktop Mode.
Open the Discover app and install ProtonUp-Qt.
Start the ProtonUp-Qt app and Add the latest GE-Proton version.
Switch to Game Mode.
In Compatibility tab pick GE-Proton version you have installed.
Turn on the Developer Mode from Steam Deck settings and in the (now visible) Developer settings turn off Wifi Power Management and restart.

Works without issues on my end.

He's tried that, infact what you said is what I have to do to make it work. I think he gave up on it. I kind of just started ignoring it, since whatever his problem is, is to complex to fix.

Whatever. Works for me, and I can't help those that won't help themselves.

That’s much more straightforward than what I was reading! Think it would work with the 64gb version or do you have a larger ssd?

I have the 512GB LCD version, so no idea how to tell the game launcher to install on the SD card.

I've had very few problems out the box on my deck.
