Cant play Steam Version when i already own windows edition?
So, i have had the windows version for a couple of years now, and recently got a steam deck. With the game on sale atm i pulled the trigger. But, even though i have an active service account, and went through the account linking process, it isnt letting me play... can i not have both versions? I dont get it.

It tells me I either don't have a valid license for the platform, or my sub is expired.

Well, every time I turn it on it gives me the code to register it (even though the website tells me when I link the 2 it's supposed to ask for the code and it didn't). And when I go to the website, registering a new platform doesn't give me the option of Steam (its greyed out).

What am I supposed to do?

your steam and windows account (?) are seperate, unless you've linked the two, and as far as I know, there isn't a way to. Just play on your windows vers. double check if it'll work on your other platform, or contact support. SE doesn't use these forums for anything.

I did a quick search and it says I can buy and play both.

It would be a bit ridiculous that I couldn't have both, especially in situations like mine...

But I guess if that's the case... I'll just ask SE directly, or a refund if they say I can't. Super dumb if I can't though.

The Windows PC and Steam version of the game are not compatible.

You will need to request an unlink by logging into your MogStation account and then selecting the Support Centre link on the bottom-left menu, on the support site find the Steam Account Link category and "request assistance", fill out the Unlink request form.

You cannot use the CD key on a Windows version SE account.
The best you can do is wait for an unlink and then make a brand new SE account, link it to your Steam account and use the CD key on it.

First result when I google it: Steam and Windows FFXIV licenses are as different as PlayStation and Windows and require separate purchases. Unlike Windows and PlayStation though, you cannot own both and must pick between Windows or Steam. Once you own one license, you cannot ever own the other on the same Square Enix service account.

Mate, the game is non-refundable.

You can play the Windows version on the deck.

You can download and use the custom launcher to still run through Steam, including on the deck. There's even a version of the custom launcher specifically for the deck. I had the same issue, but am now able to play FFXIV through Steam, even though I have a Windows version.

You can!

On different accounts.

Steam and Windows versions are not compatible.
