1.) Setup Proton GE, and set the game to use that. Pretty simple, just watch a youtube video on it.
2.) Enable gamepad/controller input in the settings.
3.) The settings have tabs along the left side, but some of those each have tabs along the top too, so don't overlook the second set of tabs.
4.) There is a setting button that is easy to over look. It looks more like an icon than a clickable button. It lets you switch between M&KB and controller. You have to go into your settings and flick that toggle.
If you can play with mouse and keyboard but not controller, the sticks let you move, but the buttons don't attack, and your skills look like a keyboard layout rather than a controller one, that graphical toggle is probably set to keyboard.
EDIT: once it starts, I also have to hit the Steam button once then back out, and it works fine after that.
Steam deck gets connect to the dock and to the tv.
Xbox series x controller is connected to the deck.
Game launches fine. Normally on handheld I would hit the steam button to enable controller inputs.
Nothing works when using Bluetooth controller. No inputs are read in the game. Idk what to do.
Edit: disconnecting the tv connection, and manually hitting the steam button to force control layout still works for the steam deck face buttons, but it won’t let the Xbox controller make any changes. It also shows the Xbox controller as the first controller in the controller order options.
It’s so discouraging. Every single time I want to try something with a steam deck it just doesn’t work. Theres always some glitch or some minor issue and no one can help and no one knows how to fix it.
Final edit:
Turn off the rumble feature, and it will work. If you have this same issue, the steps to fix it are to connect your Xbox controller, go to the controller options in the main menu, and manually turn off the rumble feature. That screws up the input for some reason. I can now use my Xbox controller and steam deck connected to my tv.
it should be available on the discover store
add that to steam as a non-steam game then go back to game mode & launch it
here is a FAQ/Set up for the launcher should you need it:

This is how i play it on Steamdeck
Tried this multiple times and it never works for me. Some small little issue always happens and then there’s no answers on what’s wrong.
