If you want to play the latest expansion now before the release of Dawntrail you should purchase the Endwalker license. If you buy Endwalker now you can definitely still have a lot of fun and not to mention you’ll have a lot of time to get levelled to 90 for Dawntrail so you can get right into it when it launches. Now Dawntrail will include both the Endwalker and Shadowbringers licenses but you will have to wait for its official release to play them because you can't use the activation code before it officially launches, so if you wait you can save some money if that is important to you.

Depends on if you're close to getting to the start of Shadowbringers, I guess. We still don't know when Dawntrail will be coming (though people are assuming that we'll get the release date at PAX later this month). Even then, it's going to be months until Dawntrail comes out, and you wouldn't get the previous expansions from buying Dawntrail until it releases.

Where are you actually *at*, progression wise?

If you're at the start of HW, no, wait.

If you're nearing the end of SB, yes.

I recommend waiting until you're blocked from progression to purchase. So once you can't go any further, THEN buy the xpac, whichever it is -- if Dawntrail isn't out yet, buy Endwalker. It's hard to say exactly when I don't know how quickly you're chewing through content.

Preordering Dawntrail will give you Shadowbringers and Endwalker *when it launches*, so buying Dawntrail won't let you progress past cap if you purchase right when it hits preorder.

So if you want to progress past the end of Stormblood before this summer, buy Endwalker. If you're still in Stormblood in like, June, you can wait.

I personally wouldn't regardless, you would be spending $40 now to spend another $40 in a few months, might as well just spend the $40 for dawntrail and then play at your leisure.

But, as others have said, if youre done with STB, and youre itching to play XIV, might as well

Play the free trial now, and pre-order Dawntrail when that becomes available so you can play through it all in anticipation without feeling like you wasted money. Note that they are a bit scummy and you can't get your pre-order reward until you become a sub and get rid of the free trial but just ignore that and play as much as you can for free

Depends on how much time you wanna spend on side contents. If you're the type that just play main story, even 1 month is more than enough to casually catch up to level 90. I'd only recommend buying complete edition as soon as possible if you want to experience all sorts of contents in the game, otherwise just wait until they release Dawntrail.

But is endwalker and shadowbringer worth so much that you would pay extra for it?

If you have the Steam version, I suggest you wait until the Spring Sale, which is expected to start on March 14th.

If you want to get caught up in time to play Dawntrail on release then it's worth buying Endwalker. If you don't care about that then just wait.

Hmm, Why you specifically bought the starter edition? cause its basically the free trial content wise but without the limitations on gil and social features

absolutely not. Do NOT get endwalker now for you will regret your purchase. Wait until sale or DT.

It's not really about that for most folks, it's about where you're going to be in progression. The cost isn't high enough to make people who are invested in playing not buy.

Do you want to take a break for a few months while you wait to avoid spending what, $40? Most folks that are having fun aren't gonna want to. That's why people keep asking about where you are in the story. If you're early enough that you won't finish SB by the time Dawntrail hits then you'll be fine!

We're just trying to make those calculations to see where you are to see if you need to buy or not. Because you don't need it if you aren't far, but you do if you are! Not about the money or how good it is (but yes, Shadowbringers is by far the best expansion fite me).

If you're not having fun enough to buy it though just stop. It doesn't change enough to justify your time or money if you're already not having fun. If the money involved is on the scale of a Big Deal for you, you shouldn't be mmo-ing anyway.

Both ShB and EW got quite a lot to offer ya in terms of content. However, since the new expansion is on the horizon. I would just wait 3-4 months and buy Dawntrail for 40$ instead of buying Endwalker now for 40$ and then buy Dawntrail, spending another 40$.

The matter isn't about the content but rather the value
