Can I buy the full game on steam and use my SE Account?
With Dawntrail coming I wanted to stop using the SE version of the game and start using the Steam version of the game, if I buy the full game on Steam can I register the key code in my SE account? Can I still use my old account to play or do I need to make a new account? Thank you!

I acquired Endwalker for my steam account.

So while you can use the same Square Enix account, in order to be able to play the steam version over the non-steam version, each Square Enix account has something called 'Service Accounts'..

Saying that, if you have XIV from before via outside of Steam, you'll have a service account for that specific version of the game.

In order to use the steam version, you'll need to log into your square enix account on mog-station, and click 'add service account' and then register the codes you get from the steam purchase.

After you've redeemed the keys from the steam purchase on mog-station, you'll be able to use your 2nd created service account for your steam version.

To access it if you get an error on launch of the game, a code like 3903 or something, you'll need to first select the 'Data Center' in the main menu of XIV and then you'll be prompted with a service account selection..

So you'll have a separate service account for your steam version. Saying that, no service account can share or transfer data from one to the other.. So if you want to start playing with your steam account instead of your non-steam version, you won't be able to access your characters etc and continue where you left off.

They're separate accounts bound to the same Square Enix account

You will need a new account. The SE version and steam version are incompatible. It's one or the other.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

So, a separate service account does mean losing all progress and characters.

I suspect that when OP mentioned wanting to keep the account, they meant keeping progress and characters, not the launcher login name. ^^

It does.

You're able to login to the same Square Enix account.
There are separate "Service Accounts" bound under the same SE account.

So as I mentioned in my initial comment, no data nor characters can be transferred to and from the different service accounts. :)

Oh thank goodness!! If you want the tracking and I think screenshots you can add the game as a non-Steam version, it's under the Games tab at the very top. Then the only thing you're really missing out on is the security, and as long as you're using 2FA that's nbd. =)

Glad you got all the information you needed in the end! :)
I bought it on Steam since I wanted to play it on my Legion Go handheld, and adding XIV as a non-steam game doesn't work right with the game, seems XIV doesn't like it for some reason.

That's what I experienced anyways, not sure if you'll have the same issue.

I only got to level 62 on my other account so I'm probably just starting anew on my steam version, I prefer to have everything in one place anyways and it's easier to manage subscriptions etc via Steam too :D

I just wanted to change to steam since where I live I heard it's cheaper to play through steam than playing through SE, but I don't think it's worth to lose everything that I got for that...

Yeah, I really think they should fix this thing and let us play wherever we want, but oh well, gotta deal with it, don't wanna lose everything I got.

But thank you for your help! I really appreciate it!
