Also, they advised us that if you have an existing account to not play during the Xbox beta. What kind of crap is that? I get it, it’s the free trial, they are network and system testing, but come on. Seriously? Free trial only, once you bind you’re done, you can’t play if you’re already a sub, since it’s just the free trial that will have access, so anyone wanting to test from PC is sol unless they make a new account for both.. bruh.
Our existing accounts have to wait for full launch, unless we play the beta on another Xbox account which isn’t our main, which, fine. But then, we need to buy the EW edition to even access our characters from pc, or the DT edition if it’s close to DT release, buy DT on steam/windows, sub to xiv, and sub to Xbox for $10 monthly?
I seriously don’t know how the ps5/pc swappers do it. Unless you don’t need ps plus to play the full game, then I would understand.
I guess it will be good to get Xbox in? Maybe Dynamis will actually have queues? lol. But, this is really discouraging people from playing on both systems. Arguement can be made, why bother, play pc where you have full keybinds and such, but sometimes I don’t want to be at the desk when I play. Idk, I’ll likely pass on the Xbox version, or, who knows. Maybe I’ll start over and free trial it. Idk yet
Oh, so.. I guess this is just a screw you to anyone who wants to play on Xbox, new or old. Yikes. Don’t get me wrong, $23-$28 a month is.. whatever, but that’s kinda unfair if you ask me. They should adopt the same policy if they want this to land.
Right, and I totally get that. It makes sense to me. The thing I don’t understand, is why MS, or SQE not advocating for it, would agree to this, unless their hand was dealt.
Yea, I enjoy XIV. I have plenty of time in it. I have PS5 and Xbox as well. But I sub to neither. I was in Xbox ecosystem for like, 15 years before I moved to Sony, and then finally PC.
Sure, I’m a sucker, I’d buy DT on pc for $40, and spend another $60 on Complete Edition for Xbox. But, I can’t just play. I have way more invested in Xbox over the years than Sony, plus my dumb*** linked a free trial to my Sony account years ago, and I can’t unlink it, so if I were going to do this, I’d do it on Xbox. Surely there would be others like me right? Or they only own Xbox and PC.
I don’t count the Xbox only users, since, odds are they will never notice, since they sub to game pass. But in my mind, wouldn’t they lose potential Xbox players who have to sub to XIV? If the sub were in game pass, yea, I’d get that. But it’s not. So you’ve got Xbox players who, out of principal, don’t want to pay 2 subs, pc players that want to play on Xbox as well, but can’t, or likely won’t, since, let’s be real here, I can’t justify $10 a month to play XIV on Xbox for like, 6-10 hours a month. I’d rather raid on keyboard, play at 144/1440p on pc during the day, but, say I wake up, get some coffee, and am like, nahh, imma just lay in bed and run dailies, or craft, or gather, or do a hunt train, or whatever and then go start my day on the weekend.
Difficult to justify $10 a month for less than 20ish hours of gameplay for something I’m already paying $12 a month to play.
You know what would really bug me, since MS owns Blizzard now, if they put WOW on Xbox, I wonder if they will include the sub in game pass. So you just buy the game and as long as you’re subbed, you play. I know why it won’t work for XIV. Because SQE doesn’t get their slice of the pie. But what does MS really lose? Nothing really. Just the folks who only want to play XIV on Xbox and nothing else. Those collective Xbox subs are a drop in the bucket. They would still get their 30% of sales or whatever from the storefront, more than making up for the sub cost.
This is not a good move by Microsoft, even Final Fantasy XI on Xbox 360 didn't require Xbox Live Gold, you could use Silver for free. But they say that was done back then as Xbox needed more online and RPG type games from the JP scene, I don't know, but it was free from Live gold payment.
So basically, if you play on Xbox and don't have a Core or Ultimate pass already, this means it is double the subscription cost, only the players that already have a game pass wont really be affected as they would have to pay for a ffxiv sub anyway.
Its even weirder that unlike the PlayStation 4 beta, Xbox players are told to just pick any world and go play, PlayStation had a test world locked on the JP DC only for them.
The whole thing just seems like a rushed mess.
They even state the test could end at any moment and go to full basically instantly, and no doubt it will asap.
It’s starting to feel like that. Sounds like an attempt to suck in the Xbox players before dawntrail and that’s it. Good on them, they are a business, but wow. The more this gets dissected, the fishier it feels.
Wouldn't Xbox players want to do the Beta test with Xbox players and not I don't know, PlayStation 5 players and even us on PC, I would want to. (Have Xbox)
Including the games subscription in the ultimate game pass would kind of make sense but no. I would actually get ultimate game pass then.
The gamepass stuff perplexes me as well: Either they are going to require xbox players to double dip or gamepass is going to cover either subscriptions or the base game(and/or expansions).
Not big on that either way since that means the xbox version will either be cheaper or more expensive compared to the other versions that way for no clear reason.
Even if this were the case, the entire mindset is odd.
SQE has a massive fan base that has played the content for years. Why wouldn’t they include veterans? A new player won’t be able to tell them if something is wrong with the game.. submitting the report would be an issue, let alone actually knowing what it’s supposed to feel like, how could they? They are new, and experiencing it for the first time. I guess a veteran can make an alt, but then SQE is really saying “yea, we know you have a max level account, don’t play that on a private DC, just power grind from 1-70 and test 3/5, non current expacs”. The whole idea doesn’t make sense. A veteran could feel latency on Xbox, load times, hotbar mapping issues, general area issues, content issues.
Unless they are so confident that XIV trial will run fine, and have no issues off the bat, excluding veterans and forcing them to restart on a trial account doesn’t make sense.
Also, thought steam had binding issues? I guarantee pc players will bind their main Xbox/sqe account, or a trial to their main Xbox account without paying attention and completely shoot themselves in the foot for later.
Perhaps Microsoft had a very stern stance that gamepass had to be involved somehow to allow the game to come to xbox...
The most negatively affected people are Xbox players who were waiting patiently for FFXIV for the ~6 years they've been teasing it since Stormblood, finally see it coming, and it's a minimum of some $25-30 USD to play. I don't think it a stretch to think some checked out after that.
The people who don't really care either way will see that 14 requires MORE money than their GP sub and more than likely just try another of the myriad GamePass titles.
There will surely be some people who will play it and enjoy the trial enough to pay for both, but the amount is going to be a lot less than it could be.
There's really no two ways around it. It's not the end and the death, but it's a major and imho unnecessary and entirely financially motivated barrier.
Like this is an issue if you own an Xbox period, not just this game. Why people buy into the ecosystem with it being a hardline requirement baffles me.
Thankfully the platform is unnecessary for the game itself’s health. We’ll pick up plenty of people who have already accepted this as a fact of their poor Xbox lives.
Did anyone actually think *Microsoft* was going to make an exception that would cost them money? What?
If you’re not already paying the pass it’s a bad idea to play this game there. Nobody should be getting an Xbox to play this game.
