Still sexualisied?
I once left the game after a dungeon run where my tank was wearing a tank top, mini skirt, stockings and high heels. This was breaking every immersion for me.

I wonder if this has been changed meanwhile. Did it change?

I guess it's pointless to ask this question, but I enjoyed FF 14 quite some time and can't test this myself without paying. And no, this no trolling. I'm looking for an MMORPG I would enjoy.

Hi Caileak! To hopefully answer you're question/s (in as long a way as possible, lol).

If anything, there are EVEN MORE Catgirl tanks in bikini's, 'step on me mommy' Roegadyn dominatrix's, all the barely clothed LGBT community 'daddie' Roegadyns, emo bunny/cat femboys dancing with the daddy Roegadyns, and Bunny-girl Waifu in Japanese school girl outfits in the last year or so! lmao.

Its a very.... um.. liberated(?)... community. lol. I guess that might be the best (or most polite) word for a great deal of the current daily player base. I'm a legacy player, and in my experience its like as they add more glams to this game... those kinds of characters just multiply in the game's early hub cities!

Speaking for myself: It doesn't really bug me (obviously), even if its not at all how I play mmos (or experience a Final Fantasy Story). But then again I RP as a giant lore friendly Moogle Prince mentoring sprouts and hardcore raiding (and endgame). lol. :MFF_Mog:

Sadly, you are not going to play just about any MMO in current year without lore breaking players (even ESO and WOW), and pervs who make busty female (or male) characters and run around the whole game barely clothed with suggestive usernames. Tho many in Final Fantasy XIV's community have certainly taken it to the next level - I will never deny that.

I say "current year" because I have definitely noticed in my (almost) 20 years of playing MMOs - that there has been a cultural shift in the player base in probably the last 8 or so years. Though, I think it has more to do with the newer players (Gen Z) who are coming in with totally different sensibilities - and maybe also a lot more international players now having access to these games and sharing the games with us (some of them from places like Brazil where its very normal there).

...Even 2024 FFXIV itself has a RADICALLY different community culture from 2014 FFXIV - when most the player base were hardcore FF fans and we had a massive (compared to the overall population) Raiding community of moonlighting WoW Players with barbarian names and giant axes and armor (half the player base looked like anime heavy metal characters). :Eredin:

It's an acquired taste.

WHAT I WOULD SAY THOUGH (Suggestions if you want to try the Game again):

Is that the game now has a lot more servers, and a few of them are really RP focused. You can easy visit other worlds, other mega servers, and even play on international mega servers with absolute ease. You can even visit them form whatever home world you choose, right from the log in menu (if you want to see if its better in some places).

I find some of the international communities have very different ideas of whats acceptable to them. You can also now run most of the dungeons tied to the story with a NPC party - and for ARR, Heavensward, Stormblood, and (most) Shadow Bringers... thanks to the current level cap of 90, you can solo even most trials fairly easily. :sephiroth:

Avoiding playing with other players there if you want. You can also do party finder, or make a FC... a LOT of ways to avoid playing with immersion breaking players if you want. And so long as you avoid Limsa Lominsa (outside quests) like the plague, you should be mostly fine.

I also find that some of the older legacy servers still have a bit of a 'older' player base lurking, and you generally see a bit less of the very over the top player there. Places like Excalibur and Diablos. Final Fantasy XIV MSQ is probably better than anything from Square Enix since FFIX or FFX... once you've made it past the slog that is ARR. So I always recommend people atleast attempt these methods before giving up.

I believe they are also doing a returning player trial too, so you can try without paying. Hope this last bit of info helps Caileak! :Asha_Life:

You're worried about tank-tops and mini skirts, just wait to you see a male Hrothgar in a female wedding dress with lime green lipstick, this game has it all.

A tank in a tank top seems completely appropriate. I don't understand the problem.

Morgan Freeman: "But it was in fact, trolling." A teddy bear is telling me that I can't wear whatever I want in a mmo. It's cute. I mean, there is nothing rational or reasonable about whatever was spoken by the OP. Why would they change what is loved by players?

If I was to take this with an approach where OP is uneducated about gaming, the best words I'd have for him is "Welcome to online gaming." FF14 is not the only game where you can look like whatever you want. Have fun seeking your serious "immersion" whatever.

So, you claim that dressing like a stripper for boss fights in an mmoRPG is "cute" and you got a picture of children in sexy dresses at your steam profile (probably also considered "cute") but find Winnie the Pooh remarkable?

Relax, dude! I won't take away your kinky fetish. :steamlaughcry:

You can't do anything about the way people play and enjoy the game. If it bothers you that much, you should stay away from the game.
Everywhere are cute or slightly naked people.

I mean... Dude is complaining about non realistic features in an mmo game that combine tech and magic... and in the same time has Whinnie the Pooh on profile pic. At this time I demand realism on STEAM platform and expect his real picture

Pooh is waay to sexy on that pic.

Thank you kindly. :steamdance:

But frankly, I wouldn't mind the usual MMO clothing jazz too much. It's mostly about the characters and what they look like in dungeons. Like, when enjoying the story until, out of nowhere, these immersion-breaker show up. Especially if a barbie is running and jumping around in super high high heels while she is kiting a boss. Looks... odd.

I could have imagined a feature which I could enable for myself only, which would then disable projections of other players for my screen only.

You know you can run the story dungeons with a party of NPCs ? Like the main Scions ??

No. Can't remember. There were these storage boddies I could send on quests or something. Can I do dungeons with them? Aren't they limited and wouldn't I have to pay a monthly fee or whatever to hire more of them?

... All is free. Im not talking about retainers. The Npcs Im talking about is the system they added for players that dont't want to wait in queues to do story dungeons required to progress. Most of the time wait times are low, but sometimes late at night, you can wait hours and not find anyone.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that possibility. Maybe they added it after I left the game and this might just be perfect for my purpose. Thank you for the link as well! I was looking for a manual like this right now.

they're still gonna have to see people in the cities and out in the world and I was given a pet the other day in Ul'Dah by a dragon boy wearing only a jock strap, sandals, and a frog on his head

if the dungeon immersion is the main issue, yeah -- Duty Support will solve that! will only have to do a couple of instances with other people (most of the 8 mans).

if they care about other people having fun anywhere they can see, they gonna have problems
