Though I agree that the game's ever increasing size is beginning to make it a bit of an issue.
It's 75Gb. Most modern games are 100+.
You think the login queues are bad on expansion release? Imagine having to wait hours to download a patch that would otherwise take minutes to apply.
A lot of FFXIV players are still in the Stone Age when it comes to their systems is what i learned, and i mean the Stone Stone age...
Already noted and acknowledged in the post, yes.
Correct, ff xiv is not a modern game, so can't compare.
Yes you can.
MMO games are a constantly evolving genre, more expansions means more content means more files means larger file sizes means more space is needed.
Hell they started to update the zones and textures and models and lighting and the overall graphics of the game.
Last thing people want is devs to stop updating and expanding an MMO game because some people refuse to update their systems with one of the cheapest hardware piece inside a system that is responsible for Space... the storage.
The game is currently locked behind signing into an account. By doing so the game will automatically download all files related to your account status - Free player: All content through Stormblood, Paid or lapsed player? Either all content through Stormblood or Endwalker. The FFXIV Team doesn't allow the game to just be downloaded without signing in to your account 1st. If you want it on standby, make a free trial account, sign in with that to get the basic info, and then when you're wanting to play more swap to the correct account to get the download for the rest of the data.
NOTE: I'm not sure how easy it is to use different accounts via Steam. I play through the Windows client and can sign in with any other window's FFXIV account at will without issue.
