Is the PvP worth it?
Hey guys im actually playing WoW but it's kinda getting bored so im looking for something new and I found FF14 pretty interesting but im not sure if it's the right game for me. I'm not that much into PvE, at least in WoW because i think it's kinda boring, so im almost a PvP only player. I've read that there isn't that much PvP content and especially not that much PvP players so you got long queue times, but the discussion I've read was written like a year ago so not including the addon. So my question is, is it a good alternative to WoW PvP prob with a mmr system or something like that and is there enough content and players to do almost PvP only?
I haven't found that much in the internet so it would be great if you guys could help me out.

If you want pvp, go with Guild Wars 2. They are one of the few MMOs I feel that do pvp correctly, or at least they used to in the first one. I haven't tried GW2 pvp yet, but I heard it's good. From what I remember about ff14, pvp is pretty much non existant, people play for the story and pve content.
You probably want to avoid FF14 if you solely want to do PvP. The main focus in FF14 is the PvE so that is where the bulk of the content is. PvP is more of a side attraction.
FFXIV is mainly based on it's story and PvE. The PvP is pretty much a side attraction like Shishio said. If you want PvP, i'd recommend games like Dragon's Nest, Blade and Soul, and or Guild Wars 2, among others.
PvP is alright in the game. Like others have said it's not the main focus, but it still has a lot of hours of enjoyment out of it. On the update coming on the 23rd, a new PvP mode will be added.

Here is information about it that you can read.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/278202-3.2-PvP-Feast-Game-Mode-Discussion-Thread.

I've put in about 80 hours (average match legnth of 12 minutes x 400 matches I've played) of the PvP that was released in July last year (About 21-23 minutes a day spent in PvP). It's not a lot but I am a mid-core PvP player, some others have put in much more than me. But I persoanlly enjoy the PvP in the game and I know a lot of people don't.

If you're PvP focused, you can occupy your time. I've known people who put in 100 matches per week into PvP but you would need to love the PvP in FFXIV and that most likely won't be the case with you.

If you come for only PvP then this game might not be for you, unless you're one of the rare cases that absolutly loves the PvP in FFXIV then you won't really be occupied enough to justify a subscription.

And about queue times, I play on Japanese servers and they are fine. But I've heard on North American servers they can get bad for certain factions. If you're just interested in PvP, people switch to a different faction just to get shorter queue times.
in a word: no
thx for the answers
The PVP in this game is imo dead. I never see anyone doing it to be honest. The combat just isn't good enough for PVP.
PvP is very active nowdays because of the recent updates. We had Seal Rock in 3.0, The Feast in 3.2, and now Shatter in 3.3.

I get in a 24 vs 24 vs 24 match in under 5 mins during peak hours and 8 v 8 v 8 matches in around 20-25 minutes during off peak hours. Just because you don't PvP doesn't mean no one else is.

Also this thread is from February.

Would be an acceptable PvP if queues for it weren't so bad. Imo the amount of points you get for each match (to trade for gear) would also be acceptable if it wasn't the que problems. Maybe theres a certain time of the day that people use for joining at the same time, but my experience with queues overall is somewhat horrible. It isn't uncommon for me to wait in a queue for more than 30 minutes, queing as any class.
If you have long queues, it's mostly likely because of your grand company. The Feast does not have GC restrictions but ranking restrictions so that could also be taken into account for slow queues.

Right now since the patch is new, The Feast isn't as popular. Frontlines is very popular right now but because of GC restrictions, if you're in a GC that has a lot of PvP compared to the others, you could end up 50th in the queue or something and a max of 24 people enter 1 match.

The best way to check if your GC is hurting your Frontlines queue is to check the lodestone for the most active grand companies on your data center.
I'm lvl 54 and I don't see any PvP at all, the queue is just infinite. I hope it will get better at lvl 60, so I'm still playing...
At level 54 the only PvP options you have is level 50 PvP and those are basically never done. Right now all PvP is centered around level 60 PvP that have been released in the last few patches. If you manage to hit 60 soon, you should be able to get in a lot of "The Fields of Glory (Shatter)" matches since that's the newest PvP to be released so lots of people are flocking to it.

In the coming weeks the queues for (Shatter) should die down a bit and The Feast should get an increase in the amount of people that do it since it's getting to the end of season so lots of people will be trying to get into the top ranks.

I've reached lvl 60 and PvP here is so bad it's just WOW. The queue for Feast is infinite and the only PvP I'm getting all the time is 72 men Shatter which is totally boring because little really depends on you when you have 24 people in your party...
Yeah the PvP in XIV isn't something everyone will enjoy, main reason it's not the main focus of the game. If you don't enjoy Shatter too much, try wait until the date of Patch 3.35 is announced and The Feast queues should quicken as a lot of people will be trying to get their rankings up to get the top prizes.

NA and EU servers are also hosting Seal Rock days of PvP I think. I'm on a JP server so I'm not sure the details of the Seal Rock event days but if you look around I'm sure you can find out what day people queue for it.
