how skill spammy is ff 14
so one of the bigger problems i have with some mmos as ive gotten older is as i progress and get higher level the game requires you to spam more and more skills and end up with like 12 skill bars... is ff 14 like that now a days? i tend to play solo.

on keyboard, if you just have a very standard hotbar setup, you're going to have about 3 bars of skills, some classes might have barely 4.

Free trial won't really show you how "skill spammy" the game is at later levels anyways.

There's a lot of unnecessary button bloat in this game, so yea be prepared to have several hotbars full of crap. This game isn't spammy in the sense that you need high APM and good manual dexterity, though; as far as combat pace goes this may be the slowest game ever made.

Global cooldown (GCD) is significantly longer than comparable mmo's; you will later on have a handful of skills that can be used off of the global cooldown, called 'weaving'.

Said GCD is long enough and you will have been playing your class long enough that at the point that this is introduced, you will be fine.

There is nothing in the game that require twitch reflexes that I know of; if there is, it's nothing you'll ever need to worry about anyway.

You WILL have 3-4 hotbars worth of skills, but you will not use them all regularly. They are added at such a slow pace through leveling that you will easily master one ability by the time that they introduce the next one.

They have added something called Duty Support to most of the group content in the game (not all) -- you can practice dungeons (and complete them for the main story) with NPCs. There are some boss fights that you have to do with other people still (and one raid), but this game has been designed to be accessible to a non-mmo audience, and so that content is do-able.

Moderation is pretty strict, so the general community tends towards being careful about talking in a lot of ways -- the big impact is that when you have a sprout on your head (the thing that marks you as a new player), *many* (I would say most, but peoples' experiences vary) are actively helpful or at *least* tolerant of being new and learning. So those few times you have to go and group up with folks, they see your sprout and they don't expect you to be the best that ever was (as long as you're clearly trying).

I think that you should give the trial a shot. If you don't want to quit after the Ultima Weapon, you'll be fine. Like the rest of the game, seriously, you'll be fine. It eases you into it like a frog in a pot.

Do not under any circumstances spend money on it until that point, though. If it frustrates you in the first while you need to not have spent money (it will make it easier to walk away).

I mean YouTube exists and it's way faster than waiting for a response that meets your expectations.

You can fit abilities of every class into 36 slots, that's three skill bars. You are not expected to press all of them at once or too frequently, most things are situational. Some classes have less buttons than others, Summoner have close to 12 abilities total.
You literally can't use abilities more frequently than once per 0.75 seconds due to animation lock - and it is required only on some classes during their burst phase in 6 second window. Generally you stick to something every 2.5 seconds as main rotation. Do not expect to have many abilties from the beginning - most classes start very slow and become at least somehow complicated after level 50.
