I'm a new player, do i need every expansion or only the latest

So i'm wondering if it is really needed to have every expansion or only the last one.

base game and latest expansion will always get you everything, though if you pre-order dawntrail you will only recieve endwalker on Dawntrails release, but as a new player that should add up pretty well :)

Starter edition has the base game + Heavenward and Stormblood expansions which has a level cap of 70. You will need Endwalker to get access to Shadowbringers which is the previous expansion to Endwalker.
Basically get Endwalker to unlock everything.

Wait for Dawntrail, dont preorder it. Vibrations in the cosmos tell me that some classes are going to get gutted and what Ive seen so far being added isnt that impressive. Take that with a grain of salt, but in any case, waiting a few weeks until after its release should fix out the worst server problems the game would experience in any case, given how people jam pack themselves like sardines in the first few weeks of an expansion, and give you a better perspective financialwise anyways.

No joke, but unless you VERY much no-life this and breeze through the MSQ, you might be able to be not NEED the expansions until Dawntrail. It comes out a few months.
