FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Toxic mentor.
So I'm fairly new to the game, Trying to learn tanking, leveling my alt job paladin to level 50, I was in a leveling roulette. There was 2 mentors.

Immediately as the dungeon started, one of the mentors, a healer (the toxic one), sprinted in front of me, pressuring me to rush and pull every mob, No surprise, I kept dying trying to keep up.
The mentor then proceeded to talk ♥♥♥♥ to me, when I tried to go in my own pace, they made fun of me telling me "Its okay, take your time, we have all 2024". keep in mind it only took us 15 minutes to beat the dungeon.

The second mentor in the lobby (DPS), who was a lot more helpful to me, actually told me what was wrong, one of the reasons was I was using the recommended gear button, which turns out is really bad for tanking, it tends to give you gear more suited for DPS, which would explain why I kept dying from pulls.

So thank you to the DPS actually being helpful to me and you actually deserve that crown.

If your'e just gonna talk ♥♥♥♥ to newer players, do the community a favor and don't be a mentor. If your goal is to make newer players quit the game, then its working. Honestly was planning to play lots this month but I lost interest.

This is one of the most stupid takes I've ever seen... You're playing a game with cutscenes and you're claiming that it's rude to watch them because youtube exists. It's like you have no awareness that the cutscenes is part of the story therefore part of the experience of the game since those cutscenes are what give you the emotions of the moment in the game.

AND YOU... claim that someone should ruin their experiences over your feelings? LOL.
The only time you watch cs and make people wait on you are foreshadowing for stuff youll see within minutes and zero story but I guess reading comprehension isnt the forte of your kind.

The story bit are ALWAYS after the content you just cleared when youre not wasting anyone time which you prolly know but prefer to act outraged over common sense...a popular trend around here.
Bad info here..
There are quiet a few content there where it's worth watching the CS before the boss.
Look at Nier raids, quiet a long CS because it's not just the boss jumping into the arena.
Same for a quiet a few ARR dungeons..
ypyt is bankable. I hope he reports you
Never been a mentor, but its probably the one job players fail the most out there, but not in the sense of clobbering stuff. It seems to requires lot of patience, to let people fail while learning things at their pace since thats also a teacher, and its not a job to be on the clock for rushing stuff. If they removed the rewards or whatever from it perhaps just a few genuine will remain for the purpose of helping. At least thats just my thoughts of that thing

What data center are you on? My friends and I are returning players that have a bit of game time under our belts and none of us would do that to you if you would like a comfortable space to learn and ask questions.
I'm not even going to waste my time with some of these replies. I just wanna say OP the absolute worst players I've encountered in this game are mentors and legend titles. I got the ever living ♥♥♥♥ bullied out of me when I was a sprout it's the sad but expected nature of an MMO. What's ironic about FF14 specifically is people like to claim this game has one of the nicest communities. This is a lie. People are "nice" (most of the time) because they aren't allowed to tell you what they really think. Do what you feel you are comfortable with. The one who pulls / runs ahead can tank it themselves or die trying.

People like you are literally why the MSQ dungeons of Prae and Meridianum had to have unskippable cutscenes added.
Lol using Prae as an example, over half the cs there have no point like the first speech before calling the big robot. Wouldnt change anything storywise to already have said robot waiting for you to be killed and I'm sure deep down you agree but choose to act offended instead...who do you think youre impressing exactly???

No you're literally the sort of person that they made the cutscenes mandatory for.

They weren't always mandatory; we used to be able to skip them. Unfortunately, people were terrible about sprouts being able to watch them, telling them to skip and watch in inn, etc--so they were made mandatory so that the sprouts would get the chance to watch without pressure.

Why do I have a feeling you're just as at fault given what you say here? I've encountered like. Ten people who're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the entire game and I've been playing since HW 3.2 release. Oh, I know, a history of people whining to the forums over "unfair treatment" when they dropped slurs or told people to kill themselves over a video game or other things where they were clearly the real ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. :S Makes it hard to believe people like you.

Whether you choose to believe me or not makes no difference to me and it doesn't change the experiences I went through as a sprout so I fully understand how it feels for someone else who is learning.

Most memorable instance was playing summoner in an Alexander raid I had no clue what I was doing and played that job cause I liked being able to summon creatures (as I called them at the time) when we wiped everyone turned on me because I wasn't doing my "job" reviving people.

I can relate to OP because once again I know from first hand experience what this community is really like and it's why 90% of the time I don't engage with it.

Side note: I read your name as Galactic Orgy.

Its good to keep playing what you like to play as, although some mmo's are bound pretty strictly to that holy trinity of tanks, dps, and healers. My favorite are paladins, but in this they got no damage spec, theyre just tanks but thats all mmo as soon they have a sword and board, same with warriors, but that one i didn't see coming at the start since big ax, they would be dmg dealers in some other mmo. Second one is dragoons, although unlike FF11 you cant summon a dragon to your side to fight with you, but i guess you build up and channel those dragonic supermoves instead.

I havent been into making friends in this game, since i usually just play for story or content, minus the raids, but i've had few run ins, or the occasional town crier or town criers group openly in limsa or uladh sounding unapproachable in open say chat. I also have a tendency to take alot of screenshots while playing.

...So wait, you're upset people got mad you ignored an entire skill because you simply didn't want to touch your res because you just wanted to play with your pets?

The hell did you think the res was FOR?

If you're a mentor and can't just say "hey maybe save swiftcast for res" to a sprout in a way that gives them wiggleroom to reply; or if someone calls them out, try diffuse the situation then your mentor "badge" is worthless.. it's not a badge of honor, it means you've played the game for a long time and that you want to help others.. if you yell at them and ruin their day, ruining their experience then you've lost FF.. save your frustration for fc chat or punch a pillow or something lol.

Also Alexander is an easy trial, takes about 5 minutes to get back to where you wiped.. and wiping to a trial repeatedly often means there's more than just a summoner at fault.

You have to remember when this actually happened I am extremely new and summoner just seemed like a fun class to play and as you put it have pets. That's literally the reason I wanted to try it I wasn't at a comfortable spot where I wanted to be tanking or healing. I lacked knowledge and knew it. DPS was the right option which summoner is. The problem was I didn't know at the time summoner was a mini pocket res when needed. It is very easy to tell someone in a nice way that you might need to use it if the healers aren't managing the role that is made for healing and revives.

The situation could've been handled much better but they all said it was my fault and only my fault that we wiped. It was the one with mainly adds and those little robots that you can use to move the bombs. Perhaps someone wasn't in the robots? Which put more pressure than necessary on the healers? Etc. It was a bad enough experience that I dropped summoner that day and picked a job with only DPS skills so I could learn.

When I eventually wanted to try healing I picked Sage and once again I took it from the bottom and learned. So many people forget what it was like being new and don't realise how clueless we can actually be. The problem is a lot of said people think we do it intentionally. We don't. As mentioned before it's a major lack of knowledge and being trash talked isn't going to improve anything.

One comment in particular does stand out. Hold W and press your buttons. This is one of those throwaway comments that serves nothing. Helping a new tank would be pointing out little things in their kit that can be easily missed like arms length. When it breaks enemies get a slow effect its not only for knock back immunity. Alternate cool downs for each group. Don't dump everything at once. Rampart - reprisal - shadow wall (30% mit) - arms length etc. Eventually it's like clockwork but it takes time to get there.

You made it to the end of HW without noticing the big, shiny res button you have. That IS 100% on you at that point. That is over 50 hours into the game of not noticing a thing. It tells me you weren't actually checking what skills you were getting on level up. Otherwise, you couldn't have missed it. Like,I cannot stress how much this is at least in part your fault because you somehow weren't checking your skills enough to notice a res button, and if you did see it, you immediately did that, "This is clearly not for me" thing as if they didn't give you this for a reason. So either you weren't checking your skills, or you failed to make a logical leap that is barely a leap and more a single step.

It's not toxic for people to wonder how you got to HEAVENSWARD, THE FIRST EXPANSION, AND BEAT IT without noticing you have a res.

It's true I made a mistake yes as expected of sprouts but for an entire group to single out 1 person as being the fault for a wipe when it's not so black and white is asinine. I became the soul target of why this group of 8 people wiped and it's uncalled for. This isn't ultimates or savage where 1 mistake / death can cause a wipe it's a level 60 alexander raid. This thread and many others like it encapsulates the problem that sprouts have to deal with.

I've had sprout healers constantly running out of MP and starting to panic 50+ 60+ all you have to do is just go "hey don't forget about your lucid dreaming, it'll help with your MP recovery" it happens. The fact threads like this still keep popping up shows nothing has changed. Some "Mentors" simply do not care. The crown is an ego trip. I have both the battle mentor and trade mentor crowns but never use them because it's a meme.
