I've also been wondering. Are we isekai'd to that world? Are we summoned by the goddess? Like what's our origin story in this game

Do mean canonical facts about the Warrior of Light in general or do you mean RP backstories?

From the story perspective: we're wandering adventurers, from parts unknown and new to Eorzea, where "adventuring" appears to be looked down on or as a lower class, with such comments as "Not bad... for an adventurer" or "You're just an adventurer, I wouldn't expect you to know our ways"

For MY character perspective: reformed ex-pirate, working for a lower stakes adventuring company that provides support for the common people (public library, walk in medical clinic etc) < Lower stakes in that we're not the WoL's, we're not billy badass ultrapowerful godlike edgelords. that sort of thing)

I am also wondering this, because those can get some very different answers depending on the person.

My character's a convicted sex offender who's trying to turn his life around and get his kids back.

Both would be interesting

My character is the only straight Hrothgar in Eorzea.

You're one of the WoL adventurers that stood up with Louisoix 5 years ago at the battle of Cartenau. Rather than letting you die with his big god spell, Hydaelyn pulled you out of time to hang out with her for 5 years, then poofed you back into existence when needed again.

You can find videos with cutscenes that explain on Youtube; there are differences in ARR between what "everyone" sees and what the people who moved characters from 1.0 to ARR see, BUT they do not take out all of the scenes that reference who you were in the Before Times. Specifically, there is a scene with Cid around Garuda time where you have a flashback thing to giving him the goggles and he recognizes you as his old friend that "died" fighting Bahamaut, and that's for everybody. I vaguely recall there being two other acknowledgments, but my damaged brain can't recall them at the moment. I believe if you do one of the Limsa classes, Y'shtola says something about adventuring with you "again", and then later on the Admiral says something (I think during the leadup to Leviathan).

They do NOT say it outright for anybody but the Legacy Characters, but it's heavily heavily implied in the story all the same.

Here we go, Legacy Cutscenes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJrgJatG4aQ

I recommend against watching this if you care about spoilers until *after* you have physically entered actual Ishgard (not the surrounding lands).

They did make it ambiguous for non-legacy characters so that your headcannon doesn't need to include a story that you have no way of accessing.

Shadowbringers/Endwalker also explain that you are Azem, one of the original Convocation, whose soul was split 13 ways along with Ethyris and your purpose was exploration, understanding, and helping the non-Amaurot world and people. You chose to champion them and suffer their fate, rather than joining Venat or Emet in trying to keep it from happening. You are not just AN adventurer, you are THE Adventurer. Thus being able to change WoL's gender in certain Tales from the Dawn on the FFXIV website when the stories in question aren't about "you" at all. But they are.

None of this is particularly important to the story making sense until you get to the point where it's explaining it so that it DOES make sense.

Taking all of this away, who the WoL is is an adventurer -- a person that runs around solving peoples' problems for money and clothes. How they got to be an adventurer in the first place this lifetime is left to the player; pretty much anything makes sense in that context (aside from Isekai, since the rest of this does still have to work, and our Real World is not one of the 13).

Yeah that's about it for canonical facts. Some people (such as myself) headcanon other things, like how our particular WoL behaves, their past, what they do when not saving the world, etc.

And pets / songs / hairstyles / assorted vehicles. I dismantled a third of an island for a motorcycle I'm never going to actually use, because I'm so attached to my amaro.

As for headcanons, my WoL can be summarized by a quote I heard years ago: "At heart, I am an optimist. Which is really hard when I know nothing good will ever happen to me."

It's like... Yeah, she'll throw herself into danger without question, because someone has to and she values everyone's lives. But she's also going to be a sarcastic little chaos gremlin about it, because she's tired of everybody's crap. (She's been tired of everybody's crap since Titan. I've been picking nearly every sarcastic / scathing dialog option for a long time.)

For my own headcanons, my WoL is... someone who's running on inertia at this point in the MSQ. So mentally traumatized by everything that the only thing keeping her going is the idea that she HAS to keep going or else she'll completely break down.

She's basically depressed enough from everything that's happened that when she can't say she has something she HAS to do, she just... lays in bed unable to muster the energy to get up.

But when push comes to shove, she will move heavens to ensure nobody else is hurt, she's just completely unable to comprehend what she could do if there was finally no longer an obligation to fulfill, a monster to kill, or a world to save and she just... had nothing she felt no moral obligation to fulfill nor that anyone was seriously asking her to do.

I even came up with justifications for when I change job (from WHM to DRK for 3.0 and then back to WHM, to DRK again for 5.0 back to WHM... again.)

At this point she adventures because it's what she knows and it's how she keeps the depression from all the dead people away!

Nice work and synopsis Sunny.
Thanks for also getting those 1.0 links!

What she relayed is kinda the long and short.
I was not in 1.0 so I cannot speak for that, but joined just as 2.0 started.
Additionally, the MC (Main Character), [after ENDWALKER] (EW) 'The [Newfound] Adventurer' title is merely given due to you passing the marker past EW.

Sure, you were the Warrior of Light (WoL), but 'Mother' is gone, well not 'gone', but not here in this realm per-say (remember the Encore). But as our best friend Emet-Selch suggested. Explore all the places we never even thought existed. Wasn't that our duty as Azem? It was, and still is.

Also, we have only explored the small gambit of Azems' own created spell on a few occasions. Who is to say that our own signature Ancients spell isn't so powerful that we one, are not using it to our full potential due to being split 13 ways... and two - We cannot only bring all the Scions back in one round (as in the Encore), but if we focused really hard, we could modify the sub-components of the astral spell, re-align the balance, and streamline it... to, Oh... I don't know... Summon Hydaelyn back?

I don't know if your devs ever thought of that but if Azems' own signature spell is so strong as to bring lofty souls like Emet and Hyth back, not to mention all the Scions, pushing all 12 slots to the max might bring back even 'Mother' with what power is left in the crystal she gave us after her original fight (not the Savage one).

Food for thought, Director-Sama.
OR... Maybe I hit on a naughty spoiler and .... yea. ^..^b

Your 'historical backdrop' on what your doing nyao is totes up to you. Your previous 'life' is still there, but not a foreground thing in your 'daily life'. So - you want to be a master craftsman while exploring the unknown reaches of Etheirys? Go ham. Write up a background about your character on Carrd.co, and put the link to it in your Adventurer Plate. Also be sure to update your Adventurer Plate to make is interesting so others will message you for character RP, if that is what you want.

There is AT LEAST -10- MORE YEARS of content, promised to us from the director.
But If I was he, why stop there? This game makes money, the company makes money, but MOST IMPORTANTLY... The fans continue to be avid fans, paying subs for an amazing story, that just keeps getting better, and rolling on. So why stop at a mere 20 years? If we love it, and you devs and execs love it, why should we stop this loco? Let's keep it rolling, making DLC patch stops, and keep moving forward.
