FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Free Trial to lvl 60
So... yeah.

If you do enough digging you can find out there is a free trial that you can play as much as you want without a subscription or paying a dime until level 60, with some pretty standard caveats.

No trading, Marketplace, Talking, 8 char max limit. Only 14 classes (is there more? i have no idea)

But to get to all of this you must embark on your own EPIC quest.......

You must go to Sony's website and register an account and download via the actual website, you can Link Steam to the account after the fact if you want.

you also have to do battle with the 1990's style webpage interface that is... to put mildly... extremely irritating and convoluted with lots of ways to mistakenly click on Final Fantasy 11 online.

but once you vanquish that foe, you're set, download the 54gb game, then update it (all very standard MMO stuff to go through) and your playing

8 character slots, 14 of the main classes... all free, without time limits, up to level 60.

why they dont just conveniently offer this on Steam... i have no idea...

Just download the free trial on Steam and then register your account on the website, no need to use Sonys website (why?)

I'm a new player, thinking of starting FF14. In the store page it says " Includes 30 days of free game time for all newly created service accounts." then how are you able to play 1000 hours on free trial?

Free trial and the starter edition (which is what you mean) are two completely different things.

The free trial is, well, free with no restrictions on playtime, but some feature restrictions (no guilds, PvP)

The starter edition costs 10€ and lasts for 30 days and has no feature restrictions (but doesn't contain all expansions)

The MSQ including heavensward is 50-60hrs. That's if you don't waste any time doing anything but MSQ and class quests. I don't see how people squeeze 1000hrs out of that, even if you leveled every single class up to 60, and got each of them augmented shire gear, it still wouldn't take 1000hrs.

62 hrs, full MSQ done, including heavensward post story up to stormblood with a level 60 Ninja fully kitted in augmented shire gear, which is the best gear for free accounts.

You can do relic weapons. Or just goof around.

Relic weapons will take a long time. People also like to play arounf in the Gold Saucer, or clear old Savage content blind and synced.

Relic weapons for free accounts? Just use augmented shire gear.

https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Relic_Weapons

Relic weapons from past expansions are not intended for combat use, but for cosmetic, achievements, and collection purposes. Weapons of similar power, for the same player level, that are much more easily obtainable and are intended for character progression can be bought with Allagan Tomestone of Poetics.
