if error codes like you just said, what are the codes?
if it's the box disappearing like you ORIGINALLY said, check that the disabling the steam overlay actually took/saved, because that's usually what breaks it.
if not the steam overlay, then it's discord, your streaming software, or some other program that has an overlay of some sort. figure out what program, and disable the overlay while the launcher is open
alternately, clean your keyboard and stay COMPLETELY away from the TAB key, using the mouse to click in password box, then type, click in the security code box, then type, and click on the play button. no ENTER, no TAB. Also stay away from F10, or any other key that's used by another piece of software to interact with their overlay.
also, check for display driver updates, and Windows updates if you're using it (especially anything aimed at Internet Explorer).
in layman's terms, what happens is the launcher gets confused when it gets covered by an overlay and is incapable of repainting itself if it needs to, so if an overlay gets in the way whatever was beneath it is just gone (on some systems; some systems handle this process slightly differently due to video drivers or current OS version and the interaction thereof, and so it doesn't always lose the ability to recover).
Run the game as an administrator.
Indicates an issue with your internet (or the internet of a system you go through on your way between you and the update server). It's nonspecific, but generally not on SE's side. I recommend contacting customer support, or turning on/off your VPN.
What trouble are you having running it as administrator?
K.
Instead of choosing 'run as administrator' as the option when you right click on the exe file (get the right one for which version of DX you're using), choose properties, instead.
Go to the 'compatibility' tab, and there is a checkbox that says 'run this program as an administrator'. Check that box. Hit OK (not cancel). Then start the game through steam.
I'm not sure what all you'll be downloading, so make sure you give plenty of time.
And again, turn off your VPN if you have one going.
