can't install the free trial
I just bought a new notebook and tried to download the free trial, but it only downloaded the full version (which I had already purchased on the old computer but I didn't activate the account) what should I do?

As I recall, if you've purchased full game on steam, it automatically installs it instead of free trial on this account. If you want to play free trial first and then upgrade it with the key you purchased on steam, I guess the only option is to download free trial from the site. When you're ready to upgrade, use the said key in mog station.

The easiest way for you to play the Free Trial version is, since you have the Full Game on Steam, go to the FFXIV Free Trial website for your region:
North America
https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/na/

EU/GB
https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/gb/

AUS/NZ
https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/au/

(You can select your closest region on any of those link at the top-right corner when site loads)

Simply "Sign-Up" and create a New SE account, once you get an ID and Password setup you can just launch the game from the steamapps/common/FFXIV/Boot/ffxivboot.exe
You wont be able to launch it through the Steam app as you have the Full game, so go to that location and open the client from there, it will load up the launcher with no ID set, allowing you to login on a Windows PC account such as a Free Trial.

Note that, this is only good for testing the game out in your situation, you own the Game so you really want to Subscribe and play your Steam version.

This is a mess because, the Windows PC (SE Store) and Steam versions are NOT compatible, you can't mix and match CD keys or Accounts, an Account can only have one version or the other registered.

You cannot upgrade without the correct version, you cannot Downgrade at all.
