I Linked my SE account with Steam and I can't access the game

Hey,
I had windows version of Realm Reborn in 2015, leveled up characters to 50. I didn't play years, Since I no longer have collector's edition CD, I bought Steam version now after years and I wanted to give it another go, to get back into the game. I linked my SE account with Steam. Now when I launch FFXIV client I have only one option: I have SE account. I purchased a Legacy subscription on Mog station for a month and when I try to launch the game all I get is:

This service account does not have a valid FINAL FANTASY XIV license for this platform or your subscription has expired.
To register a license, please visit the FINAL FANTASY XIV: Mog Station (https://sqex.to/Msp).

On Mog station I see:
Account Type
Legacy

and Platform:
Windows for a realm reborn and Heavensward. I did not own Heavensward before, so this was added with steam linking. I can't access the game, anyone had a similar issue? Ty for advice.

Windows versions and Steam versions are not compatible. You had a Windows version already.

Log into Mogstation with your original account, and find the 'download' button from there. You'll be playing on the stand alone client, not the Steam one.

Your steam account that you purchased probably went onto a second service account (same SE login, but it has its own account and characters and stuff), and is unfortunately not refundable (even though you can't/haven't played it).

The link shouldn't mess with your primary account or anything, you should be able to log in on the stand-alone client no problem.

(Everyone has Heavensward across all platforms and accounts if they have ARR; it's included now, and is unrelated to the steam account link.)

well, then 10 bucks for steam version is a waste in my case. I will get standalone.

I find all the Steam stuff to really confusing...
Bought Endwalker a few days ago and today by chance I found out it was NOT actually activated since I had to buy it in steam, look up the "CD KEY", go to the Mog site, add the CD key after I bought it....

Well, money wasted. Square Enix does not recognise the game via steam. Linked accounts, paid sub still nothing. Wont even download game. Keeps saying unable to play on this platform (PC). The Square Enix page is an absolute joke in itslef. Cancelled cr card and deleting. WON'T be using steam for anything other than free junk from now on

Is it like I have to start completely over on another service account or it wont even recognize my purchase and wont let me login via steam at all?

Man the game is great but the account system is worst I've ever seen.

I got it to work. First, you need to grab CD key from Steam. On the game detail view, select the cog button on near the top right side > Manage > CD Keys > copy your CD key.

Then, on SE's awful mog...site whatever, switch "service account" > Add New Service Account > choose platform > choose the registration code option (on the right) > paste CD key.

That should add a live service account with Steam subscription and activate it. Now when you run the client, it should let you start downloading the game client.

What a convoluted BS process. Jesus.

I own the FF14 steam version, then when I bought a ps5 I went and bout it for playstation, then later, cause I don't like steam as much anymore. I went and bought the PC version of FF14. I have all copies \o/ Good thing to know, if you buy the collectors edition on one platform, you unlock the collectors edition for all platforms when you link your different platforms to your ENIX account
