WHY IS THE LAUNCHER SO BAD?!?!

Does anyone else have the issue with the launcher from steam where your friends list fills the window mid-typing and you cant go further? It's like square enix doesn't want my money and their website is even god awful!

You can and probably should turn off Steam Overlay (Right click Properties on FF14, very top option on General). That should clear that issue for you.

Why would one open steam overlay during download process in launcher(in windowed mode)that is around 50% the size of screen. Like... Just mimimase it... Also its a Steam Isssue not SE issue. They provide launcher and its up to steam to make it work. Not the other way around

For me the only issue I had with the launcher, was that it wouldn't work right when not the only activity in operation. So I couldn't download the game in the background, or update the game in the background. I literally can to do anything when the Launcher is updating or the launcher will well have issues, and sometimes CTD.

Though it's not the only launcher that does weird stuff like this. Genshin Impact's launcher has a similar issue, though it doesn't crash, just fails to download and I have to relaunch it.

Sadly for FFXIV though if it crashes all progress is lost. So... it's honestly a lot worse than the issue I have with Genshin's Launcher as. As Genshin's launcher I don't lose progress when it messes up.

It's kind of an in-between. Updates have 5 or so major files over the entire spread( Main, ex2, ex3, etc.). If/when network craps out, you'll restart the segment you were on last, saving any you've completed. If it craps out 99% into that first file though, you'd still have to redo that one before it will move on.

deactivate the steam overlay. iunno if you have many games on steam with a launcher but if you do should you know that launchers hate in general the steam overlay.

I rarely fail to download. And even if I do, it's usually a problem on my side

OP: Right-click the game in your library, manage, go into the various options, disable steam overlay. The overlay and the launcher don't play well together, and if you leave it at shift-tab when you tab between fields it occasionally gets seriously stupid.

either that or pretend you're allergic to TAB and don't touch it while the launcher is open, then you can keep the overlay (that's what I do, since I like the steam screenshot stuff)
