So I bought this a while back, forgot a lot of things since then.
do you use the mog station website at all for this steam version?
do I need to login to any of the ff14 websites to play this again?

Yes you use it just like with the non-steam version.

You need a SE+Mog Station account and you at least need to log in into Mog Station.
