Black Screen after launching

I upgraded my GPU to a 6800 XT and now the game wont launch, i get to a black screen with the cursor showing but nothing is happening. I used Driver Uninstaller to clean my GPU drivers and reinstall new ones.

another person with this annoying bug.
well, theres a workaround for this.

start the launcher, after you did that, login and wait until steam verified your login token. when you see the play button, dont klick it. open your taskmanager and kill steam via kill process.

after that, click play and FF14 should start.
for some reason has a minority of peoples this bug.
it even vanishes for some peoples suddenly and they didnt needed to do the workaround anymore. for others appears this problem out of nowhere but goes aswell away again.

valve nor SE knows whats going on. hence why it still didnt got fixxed today.

there are many rumors why this happens.
some say its the steam overlay
then its a corrupted char file (the ones when you create your char and the disign gets saved) so peoples say "delete it" some say its the hotbar settings but shouldnt affect the game until it loads into the world etc.
then are there peopels which say windows (aka microsoft) is at fault hence why valve nor SE can find/fixx the problem cause its a windows issue and so on.

It really does sound like steam overlay. Maybe turning it off would fix it without killing steam?

nope, its a bug which is since a while around, when you google FF14 blackscreen after start will you find other topics here too. its a bug which is around since 7 months or so.

I never doubted it existence. Just said turning off steam overlay instead of killing steam could help too ?. If killing steam is a solution/ workaround, it is something to do with ff14 and steam.

Steam in fact also did a lot of changes to overlay, so I would not be surprised if that was the culprit. Obviously whatever works best.

ok, then say it more direkt, deactivating the steam overlay does not affect this bug.
with other words, the steam overlay is not the reason. peoples tried it. same with all the other mentitioned rumors why it occurs ^^.

its a bug which comes and goes and noone knows why.
it could even be that OP has this problem today and tomorrow is it suddenly gone, or it plagues him for days or weeks, who knows.

btw edit, the steam overlay should be anyways set to off for FF14.
because the launcher HATES the overlay.

i had it ONLY once then tried to start again and it suddenly worked.
peoples can have this issue for just 1 startup or for months on end. the months on end is so rare that noone ever reports it to SE so they cant look into it.

Sadly this issue is still around, but Steam are on it (sarcasm), when I got to Task Manager to kill Steam off, it automatically loads back up when I click onto the FFXIV launch screen.
