should I come back or wait for the next expansion?

for context I used to play on ps4 and have played constantly since ARR so ignore the hours on steam but I stopped playing a year or so ago when I got burned out from the game. I did all the extremes when they got released, got all the mounts I could be bothered to get (though I was still missing some at the time and now probably a few more), I got everything to 90 and geared everything, I think from memory the only things I didn't even try are the ultimates, I also had all the glam from the gold saucer at the time.

anyway you probably get the point, I played a lot and got everything I wanted to get at the time, I want to come back to the game soooooo bad but I'm also not big on the idea of paying for a sub only to spend a week catching up and going back to sitting in limsa for hours.

I mean depending on how much you wanna actually do it'll take longer than just a week or two to catch up.

Still, I'd say at least wait until Fanfest over the weekend. See what we hear about 6.5 content and what 7.0 is going to be like coming up. If they sound interesting, I'd still probably wait until after 6.55 comes out. We'll probably have half a year after that before the next expansion comes out. Gives you plenty of time to do everything and be prepared for 7.0 without a whole bunch of time to sit around and wait hopefully.

Pay for a month. If you are having fun continue. If you run out of things to do then unsub and wait until expansion.

That's ultimately up to you. If I'm understanding you correctly, you focused purely on doing all the things you wanted to do vs. trying to experience EVERYTHING the game has to offer. Therefore, it you're looking to do the same old same old vs. broadening your horizons, coming back at ANY point will likely be a short lived stint of satisfaction.

For what it's worth, the next expanion won't come out until at least early 2024, so if you decide to wait it will still be a somewhat long wait.

Endwalker sucks and has barely any content that's appealing to those who moved on from being daily roulette mouthbreathers.
Come back in Summer / Fall 2024 to get a few hours of mostly unvoiced cutscenes and minimal gameplay.
