Not accepting new characters for 9 hours

I just bought this game yesterday so I could play with some friends. I installed it, made a character, and then sat for 9 hours refreshing servers hoping one would open up. They play on Malboro in Crystal, and I haven't seen any of the Crystal servers accept new characters while waiting to get in. Am I doing this wrong? I logged in on off hours as well but to no avail. Please help, this is really frustrating

Crystal is congested, no character creation available. You can either wait and hope a slot opens, or make one another data center and hop over whenever you guys play together, and then when a slot opens in Crystal, move your character over.

I'm in a European DC and I've never had this problem, at worst you can always try there.
I don't know if your problem comes from the fact that the world is full for the moment or if it's full forever. If it's forever full that means it's lost. I imagine Crystal must be super popular.

I share my opinion but I'm sure of nothing, take what I say with a grain of salt I hope your problem will be solved and that you will play with your friends anyway

There are plenty of spots that aren't congested that are NA, which I'm assuming OP is

You can make a character in another data center and travel to Crystal to play with your friends.

So what big streamer decided to land on Crystal this time to make the popularity go up? I remember years ago everyone wanted to crowd on Aether which was always congested but now it's Crystal?

Nothing. Ever since DC travel opened up, all of NA is coming for RP. Its a bigger population than you think.

Before DC travel, Balmung and Mateus were locked. Post DC travel, All of crystal is locked down. It is majorly over populated at present.

I do not think Crystal will be opening up any time soon. You can make a char on Aether, Primal or Dynamis and DC travel over from the main menu, character selection. Crystal has always been congested, with a few worlds locked down from time to time. Now it is fully locked down.

keep clicking to create til you get a character made. You'll just have to keep trying until it registers. The issue is likely the world is full and that happens a lot with FFXIV. They get filled up fast but spots get made too. Use to be you like could go on at 3am EST you could try and get lucky. Know this with Leviathan that use to be an extremely populated world being a large server and one heavily focused on raiding which isn't so much any more but spread out.

Also a lot of the bots that get made don't help in this but they get deleted too.

Crystal is fully closed, it's not automated. It'll only be re-opened whenever devs manually unflag it as not congested. It's not the same as a temporary congestion which means the world is currently full.

I honestly don't think it's going to be any time soon. It's most likely part of their efforts to try to direct people to Dynamis.

Game defaulting to Crystal for new players, it's not their fault.

You can DC travel and play the game fully. All you are missing is the ability to buy a house and be in an FC. As someone who has been in FCs, the buffs are never what I personally need anyway, so it’s not like it matters anyway, with the only valuable one being extended food or exp buffs, and you can’t sell items.

But, what you could do is sell the item to your friend and have them sell it, and then all you miss is housing, island, and an FC.

Make a character, data center travel, and live on crystal. Millions of people are doing exactly that, and that does not include who was there before it is locked.

You literally cannot make a character until SQE opens it up. In the past, much like aether is now, at off hours, normally 15 min after a patch or at 3-6am EST you could make a character. Now, you cannot do that. It isn’t a matter of when anymore.

Crystal was already overpopulated, and with travelers is it about 2-3x more congested than I ever remember it being. And the ironic thing, I cannot find PFs to do the content I want to do. I have to transfer out of crystal to do the content I enjoy, when I play. As I am mainly on during the days and not at peak times.

All in all, if I could give you my spot I would. Honestly. I was thinking of moving over to aether or Dynamis.

Your best bet, is to DC travel, and if transfers open up, do it. Only thing I can recommend when I transferred to balmung is be awake right as maintenance ends. Balmung has historically been locked to transfers, but if you’re fast enough, same principal may apply. If it doesn’t, then it is 100% in SQE hands on when it opens up. And they realize crystal is full, and aether is getting there, hence the push for Dynamis
