Is there a point in having multiple characters if one in particular can become any class in the game and keep their levels which switched around?

I returned back to this game after many years and I am really enjoying it. I was looking at the games class system which I remembered having to have certain classes to be at a certain level in order to advance to a better one. I just realized that you technically can become what ever class you want to be, like a tank can switch to a healer class if they wanted to. I was curious if because of this, does it make having multiple characters pointless other than someone would like to play as a different race?

pretty much yes. some people have characters on different worlds to play with friends there. some do it for different races without needing to pay for fantasia. some do it to try the different starting area storys. as they recently added a New Game + mode, where you can repeat story and other quests you have completed you dont really need another character for that.

I personally wouldn't make more than one character as I don't have the sheer force of will to go through all that MSQ again.

And I don't need to. As you say one character can be any class.

In absolute terms one character can do literally everything. Alts are never required save to do more of a thing, raid more, farm more, do MSQ more, more glams, more races etc.

Alts are only useful if you want to gear multiple classes for raiding early in the tier. They are also good if you want to play in multiple regions. Other than that, there is no real use for alts.

You can only own 1 personal house and 1 fc house per character per world (and yes there is a way to get around the 1 fc house limit thing) so many of us level multiple alts to acquire houses without breaking ToS. Make sure your alts are on different worlds. I won 5 houses on my alts solo fc yesterday, including 4 shirogane beach houses, for example. You can't do that if you only have one character.

Alts have plenty of uses. They can be used to troll the official forums without exposing your main character. They can be used to continue stalking people who have you blocked.

That's kind of risky because if you go too far you are jepoardizing your entire account. I would recommend not stalking peopple and not trolling forums but if that's what you really want to do with your time, just open another throwaway service account and do it from there. There's no point risking your main account.

True, but a new character on a throwaway trial account could also be considered an alt, so the same logic applies.

I have 8 characters from the same world, 1 is my main one and the rest are inventories + their servants so I get a lot of sales and therefore gils, and profits so on that point yes it is useful.
I also have characters on the worlds of my server they serve as vendors and I collect their gils every 3 months or so.
Sometimes it almost makes me feel like a farmer milking cows to get the milk. Anyway, a lot of greedy players do this, it's not my idea in the first place.

Many people also, depending on ones data center, use alts for Role playing, and other such Community Events, whilst their main is solely directed to Progression.

There are also some who create characters in Japanese or American DC in the hope one day to plunder the resources to benefit their world, some kind of spies I think it's pretty funny because it's clearly a joke or rp this story of taking the resources of another world ... Too bad for them there are many restrictions between DC

I have a main, and then some sides, just for the purpose of having a different character itself. There's no direct need to make multiples, so it's left up to the individual.
