(ANSWERED) Any additional costs to play besides buying full game?

Hi, I'm kinda thinking of starting to play FF14. I had played the free vesion 1-2 years ago and liked it.

So on top of paying to buy it, are there any additional costs like monthly or yearly fees/memberships?

It's a monthly based subscription MMO. So beyond that and any DLC/Expansions you want, no.

you need a monthly subscription to play the game. entry subscription costs $12.99 for most of the world. brazil and russia apparently get $4 regional pricing on steam for entry sub. you don't have to play every month. you can take breaks. the game doesn't force you to play everyday. it's fairly chill as far as mmorpgs go.

I suggest playing the free-trial until the end of the heavensward arc, and then buying the game when you want to get into stormblood. should save you some subscription fee for the first few months.

Yes there are monthly subs. You can also pay for extra retainers(servants that do stuff for you, very useful for crafting/passive resource gathering), or an upgrade on the phone app which gives you an extra retainer, chocobo saddlebag space, and the ability to manage/sell items on your phone.

Hey, i just started the game yesterday and it is fun! I suggest starting with the free trial as mentioned above by other users and you get more than sufficient gameplay and gametime. I did spend some time thinking of which server to join though cause apparently you don't get to switch unless you pay money but i managed to find one that has a wonderful community through discord

You can travel to any server/data center in your region so it's not really important anymore.
