Report a translation problem
You don't own the game on steam you lack the mouse icon by your name as I do. You likely bought it from somewhere other than steam or on a different steam account. If you log into the mog station with the correct account you played with before it will show what you own in that terrible mess of an interface.
They should be able to get squared away with that. The login for the website is the same as the login to play the game. I recommend having your "friend" come and get troubleshooting themselves, because if they can't get squared away by logging into Mogstation, we aren't going to be able to diagnose from here.
If it's your friend's game and you tried to install it on your steam and log into their login on the launcher, you can't. Steam ID and account ID are linked. You can only log into the ffxiv account from the steam account it's linked to, and a single FFXIV account can only be linked to a single Steam account. You cannot use it on multiple Steam accounts.
It's a security feature. =) Makes it harder to steal FFXIV accounts.
