If Steam ♥♥♥♥♥ itself you cant play but you get the option to pay with steam wallet

All other problems seem to be Optional
Once you choose one, you can't switch to the other. That is something to keep in mind, especially if you're conversion rate for paying is significantly different. I know there are differences in some of the costs depending on if you're going via Steam vs Mogstation.

Steam has to be up and working for you to be able to log into the game. If it goes down while you're in game, you'd be fine.

Example: Right now, my Steam is refusing to load on my computer. Therefore, I can't launch FFXIV or even patch it. I'm trying a restart as my computer had crashed while coming out of sleep mode.

I rarely have issues with Steam and launching the game, however.

it happened cause steam had community maintenance. it happens every tuesday to wednessday. aka friendlists and community server is offline for like max 2 minutes.

The main complaint I see about the Steam version is that you can't play if Steam is down, but how often does that really happen?

One major pro for non-steam is that it does SEEM to go on sale more often. Like CE was 50% a few weeks ago through the website, but not on Steam.

i say, the major pro for non-steam is that you can buy the entire game for just 20€ (if the sale is still ongoing, 10€) aka basegame+all addons aka the complete edition. you can not do this here on steam.

You can use your steam wallet for everything in ff14 mogstore and subscription. But not for transferring a character to another world.
I would honestly go with the Windows version, the version you call "mogtsation".

unless you really need to use steam wallet to pay, I'd recommend going mogstation

If you have some csgo skins to sell it can be worth it to get it on steam.
Sold a knife (on steam market place) back in 2015 and grabbed ff14 collectors edition.
mogstation for sure, always something up with Steams handshaking with this game for some odd reason.

I got the steam version without thinking much back then because I wanted to see my time on my profile. Never got a single problem with it. There are no wrongs on either side.

Hahah samesies! :) I did not know what to pick before i thought about exactly the fact that on Steam i always see the hours on all games and i liked that idea.

And yes, i wish there also was some Steam achievements to get from FFXIV, i know some would not like, but i'd think would be just cool extra to have that would not be away from anyone who would not like to do them.

Played a bit over a year without any problems by having the Steam version, so i guess anyone go with what they want. Well, there is the thing i have to keep the Steam window open just when i login to FFXIV after the last summers change where it made us all confirm/link our Steam accounts from mogstation (that demanded logging in to your right Steam account once), other than that no problems.

Oh and to OP, if you decide to go with Steam, and for whatever reasons had more accounts than one on (on either service), make sure to link the right ones, it has instructions and the "are you sure" confirm thingies, so to anyone being able to read it should go without problems. Just a heads up so not have to contact SE customer support since only they are able to unlink your account if you do it on wrong account.

If you go with just the Mogstation/SE store version, you don't have to link any accounts = more simple and fast i'd guess for those who do not even use Steam or not need to watch the game time (you can still in game see your character hours individually with /playtime command if remember right).

No wrong pick tho, but the pick is permanent so cannot switch from one format to the other later unless makes a new account so all progress lost. So that is the thing to keep in mind.

Have fun on your journey! :)

I went with Steam because it's more secure. If someone were to somehow steal my FFXIV account there's still a Steam, Paypal and Credit Card layer to fight through. Directly through Mogstation you can't even use Paypal for some reason.

Extra layers means a bit more complication when setting things up, though, and if Steam goes down you can't play, even if the game servers are up.

You can use PayPal to buy Crysta, which enables you to buy sub time.
I chose the steam version have not had any issues with paying my subscription. The reason I went with the steam version because that where the majority of my game library is.
I been playing this game for about 3 years now and I will endorse the mogstation since steam does tend to have its hiccups. steam sales and all that might be appealing to your wallet but saving 1-2 dollars is negligible specially if your going to the ff14 store to pick up other things since the steam store does not carry what the ff14 store does.
