FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

HELP!
i have all the expansions purchased on Steam except for Endwalker, can i buy Endwalker on Amazon (non Steam edition) and have access to it using Steam?

Since it's just an unlock code for my Mogstation account, i'd assume it will work since Mogstation does not separate Steam and PC on their unlock chart (Mogstation)

Just rather get some clarification from someone here before buying. Thanks!

Under normal circumstances, the windows client and steam client are not cross compatible. So once you are in one eco system, you cannot swap.

I personally do not know if you can do this, but I would imagine you cannot.

The general answer is:
Steam and Windows FFXIV licenses are as different as PlayStation and Windows and require separate purchases. Unlike Windows and PlayStation though, you cannot own both and must pick between Windows or Steam. Once you own one license, you cannot ever own the other on the same Square Enix service account.

Steam requires Steam purchases.

FF XIV STEAM is just a launcher, i fail to see how it can check my dlc purchases at all since i do not give them my account info.

All Steam does is boot the FF XIV LAUNCHER which asks me to log into my Mogstation account.

Your mogstation account uses the original steam code when you make it. I believe.. steam and windows codes are generated seperate, so once you enter one youre locked in, as far as mogstation is concerned.

It even says here: https://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?id=5382&kid=78848#:~:text=Make%20sure%20you%20are%20playing%20on%20the%20correct%20platform.&text=For%20example%3A%20while%20the%20Windows,versions%20of%20any%20future%20DLC.

For example: while the Windows version and Steam version both run on PC, Windows and Steam versions are not compatible with each other. (i.e. purchasing a Steam version of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online will require you to purchase the Steam versions of any future DLC. Unfortunately, Non-Steam DLC will be incompatible with the Steam version of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, and vice-versa.)

The code you enter in mogtsation is platform dependant.

I mean, i would understand it if it were PS4/5 to PC. You should have to buy it 2x if you want to play on one account, because they are 2 different game systems, but yea, never understood the lockout on Windows versions vs steam versions, unless it has something to do with the registration/game keys you are given, where steam generates their own vs SQE generated.

i even do not understand the Console to PC needing keys. as long as you bought it on the same email account. it's tied to the Mogstation.

Just another way to suck money out of their customers. Greedy AAA devs these days.

when you go into the mogstation (aka into the enter key section of your mogstation) is the mogstation with red text clearly telling you that your account is an SE steam account and that ONLY steam keys work for this account.
you can not use retail keys on an SE steam account. you need to buy the addon here from steam.

its not really SE´s fault.
its more steams way to handle its sales. furthermore gets Steam somehow handled as "console" rather then "PC" you can see that in your login history whenever you login via steam into your account.

if you want the extra aka the minion etc. can you upgrade via mogstation. just choose the expansion there and then choose to pay via steam. the stuff will be send within 24hours via mogmail to you.

Blame Valve and Sony for platform specific keys. If you buy the game on their platforms, they want you to buy the DLC on their platforms too.

Do if you buy the base game on Steam, you have to buy the expansions on Steam. Codes for expansions brought outside of Steam will not work.
Same deal for Playstation, if you buy the game on PS4/5, you have to buy the expansions on the PS Store, even if you already own them on PC. For example: I own up to Shadowbringers on Playstation, but up to Endwalker on PC. If I log onto the game on my PS5, I can't play any characters that have reached EW content.

The difference between Square and Steam versions are just payment methods and region restrictions, no other thing. For example, Steam can give you under some circuimstances all 3 versions of registration keys (EU/NA/JP) if you move before using any and didn't connect Steam account with Mogstation
