Your point is the problem.
Yes i think both have revealing clothes and sexy characters SHOULD have options for doing so and being in games, all sorts of choices from modest, seasonal (like full winter clothes), casual, to sexual hot & skimpy and yes, even lingerie types.
As a girl (stupid that gotta say it, but whatever, my best friend who plays FF14 with me is also a girl, yes IRL and not in game catgirl only lol and agrees with me) i think the last couple years of some certain groups of people complaining about this issue has just gone too far.
We like our "power fantasy" as much as the boys do, that often wanna look hardcore "gigachads" or be the tiniest lala, but with a bigger sword than their body and run around in some skimpy cloin cloth only.
My example is from me and my friend, but i think most girls are the same.. only those who feel the need to be angry about everything and hate men in general for no real reason, seems to have issues with games these days and girls parts in them. They seem to be mildly satisfied if the main character is a woman of color, who is a lesbian and beats men with one hand while giving a lecture of the superiority of women.
Me and my bestie? We like to have full set of different kinds of glamour plates, from seasonal (like when we go to Eureka snowy/cold zones we often put on winter clothes glams, yes yes rp intensifies, and then between bosses sit near the warm fires, anyone who recognizes from this btw- hi fellow eureka enjoyers! :) And yes, we also have skimpy clothes and love some legit SLUTTY glams also and see nothing wrong with it.
I mean, irl we are "good girls" who are shy. Why in game we should not do what we wanna do and be as sexualized as we wanna damn be? :D Now -that- is the actual feminism, that we have freedom to play as we want, look as we want, and we both see nothing wrong with HOT female characters, players and games having such themes. We both did think Nophica design was amazing and the memes about the massive naturals were great and oh yes - that pair is impressive and beautiful and her dress, we both would want it as a glam. And yes, we both would want boobs slider and butt slider and more settings like that.
It is not away from us if there are hot female characters/npc's in any game, we both are not insecure about such things. Maybe we are then cute enough irl to not be haters of cute/sexy things in games. When no need to fear comparisons or see game character as some weird threats for our existence. There are a lot of hot males too. We wanna have and keep both. Enough with the stupid woke crap already. It's been just ruining things and nothing more. Writes of such games and tv shows are just plain bad most of the times and the "message" feels forced. They are not talking for me or any girl i know. It's some weird NA made up propaganda. I guess some weird brainwashed NA girls support that stuff, what seen from clips.
People who complain about such are taking things too far. Are we becoming some muslim world soon where everyone is to dress into some full body and face covering thingy and same in games?
I'm personally damn happy FF14 has all kinds of choices for clothes, all kinds of characters, sexy also. And so it should be. Life is serious enough, games should not be. Anyone trying to take away fantasy worlds and changing them into shades of real life should be exiled from this planet and reality. They should live in some moon or something where they can control freak themselves to death.
Meanwhile everyone else with common sense should enjoy our games, our cute & sexy clothes and characters. Only some people with actual mental health issues see problems with PIXELS being "sexualized". Get help and eat your meds and leave our games alone, thank you!
There, my usual morning coffee wall of text take on things.
tldr: Freedom for being cute, hot & sexy when wanna feel like looking like that is important in a fantasy game. "Woke people" should be launched into outer space. Here in nordic countries and europe we like our games, movies and tv shows as they were before all of this forced "message" of last years that only make things utter poop in quality. Problem seems to mostly come from NA. Anyone who cannot separate PIXELS, fantasy in games and entertainment and demand some biased real life ethics needs to start eating some anti-psychotic meds and delete their twitter accounts. No one cares about your opinion except your echo chamber of same type of miserable beings. Get a life and leave my games alone, thank you!
Classic Lara Croft was literally just well-endowed and wore shorts.
It's incredibly bizarre that she became some kind of a go-to example in regards to this...
This is such a tired subject matter to begin with.
Jesus christ not every character and every game needs to cater to a specific view/ personal preference...
People have so much choice, if people don't like characters wearing shorts or whatever there's so many games they can play.
Basically every single AAA game for instance...
I also hate how it always gets dumbed down and people act like men and women are monoliths.
I watch A LOT of streamers for FFXIV, and I also have played since ARR and been in many FC's before where I've known many members who have been women.
And they for the most part played pretty '' stereotypical '' characters lol ( Miqo'te, Viera and Au'Ra in either cute or skimpy outfits ).
And when I think of '' thirsty FFXIV streamers '' I exclusively think of female streamers.
TiffanyLockheart is someone I am watching play through the MSQ and she arrived at EW recently, and she's by far the thirstiest I've ever seen lol.
Like 80% of her streams are just thirsting over characters and she plays a Highlander wearing the 2B legs and boots.
This whole discussion just feels so pointless to me and like people trying to shove their negative opinions down peoples throats, and like people can't accept that others like things that they don't.
It's just such an exhausting subject I wish people could get over already.
Diversity and options actually includes characters like these too.
I actually enjoy the DoA fighting games a lot, they're great games.
The issue I think is that most people get their view of the games from the Volleyboll spin-off game.
Same with the '' physics mode '', it was an optional thing you literally had to go out of your way to both unlock and also enable.
Is it silly? Perhaps, but I also think it's silly that the entire game franchise became defined by it...
DoA5 had an almost 50/50 gender roster, and the male characters had plenty of skimpy outfits too.
Did the female characters have more?
Sure.
But I also think it's quite questionable when people hyperfocus on female characters and then ignore the men who look like models and run around in speedos.
Reminds me a bit of how people freaked out about Cindy in FF15 when the entire male cast of main characters were like a traveling J-pop boy band.
'' But mechanics don't dress that way! ''.
Okay... And bodyguards walk around with an open vest exposing their chest and abs and look like models?
Gimme a break rofl.
Especially with FF it's silly, because the FF franchise is quite known for the '' pretty boy '' aesthetic.
You have a very odd definition of '' sensible ''.
If you want to say that the female characters have a lot of skimpy outfits then sure, but I really think it's completely idiotic to label everything skimpy '' strippers and porn stars '' constantly.
No one does this ♥♥♥♥ when it's male characters running around half-naked.
Even when they dress closer to actual real life strippers than the female characters do.
A man in jeans with his shirt off is actually more closely dressed like an irl male stripper than the women in Lost Ark are.
I really don't think that this is true, I'd argue that Soul Calibur leans more heavily into it than DoA does.
I'd even argue that Street Fighter by default does, the issue is as I mentioned above that the Volleyboll spin-off influences peoples view on DoA so much.
And in fairness, I would also add Honoka and Marie Rose to that as well...
Those two characters are kinda questionable, they feel totally out of place in the games.
Most people haven't even played any of the DoA games, they've just heard things and repeat what they've heard or look at screenshots of DLC costumes.
Which are really not even that different than DLC costumes in games like Street Fighter or costumes in Soul Calibur.
As someone who basically plays all fighting games it's incredibly bizarre to me that DoA has gotten this reputation, because I really don't feel like it's any different than the rest.
I suppose the Ninja lvl 50 AF gear could be counted too.
However.
I would argue that female characters have more options than male characters.
The pants in the lvl 50 AF set for Ninja for example on the male version is just baggy pants that already exist in the game for many other sets.
There's many other leg pieces in the game that look identical to it.
The female version which I am not exactly sure what to call, they're totally unique in the game.
There's no other thing like it in the game.
So it feels very stupid to me when people complain about it and say that the female version should be the same as the male version.
Because I mean, why is the male version being treated as the inherent default all the time?
But also, why should the male version be treated as the default when it's actually less original?
If they HAVE to be the same, then the female version should be the default one imo.
Because the female version actually adds more variety to the roster of transmog.
The same goes for other gear that looks different between the genders.
The female options are always more varied and different, while the male versions are more generic and things that already exists for other sets already.
I'd extend this to other MMO's too, gear for female characters is always more varied than it is for male characters.
So when people say that the gear should be the same and then treat the male gear as the default, they're effectively saying that there should be less options.
Irrefutably based and pixel-sexual pilled.
Not to mention how tired of "muh sexualized womyn" argument is considering men are sexualized just as much, every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game out there has a ripped shirtless beefcakes and/or pretty twinks.
If you get offended by fiction and pixels, no matter the subject matter, you have weak genes.
Posting your mandatory student survey that you need to do for uni to get points for a degree on a steam forum probably isn't a good idea. You're probably going to get a lot of trolls and I doubt you can hand in some of the stuff they'll reply with to your professor. Or do they really not care what is in the survey as long as you do it?
HOWEVER.
I am more incline to lean towards tasteful sexualization. There is a different between a woman showing off her assets in a game in some kind of advantage, And the creators just straight up going "Hey she has big boobs check this out"
Ironically the people I've seen sexualizing women most in video games tend to be...women. Women enjoy making big tiddy big booty characters and running around in string bikinis while killing things. Not all women, But a lot.
There's also the fact that a rather significant amount of women work as both artists and writers when it comes to hentai, and that's covering almost every fetish imaginable. Oddly the extremely vast majority of those who complain about the sexualising of female characters tend to be of either the older generations and/or from western countries, especially on Twitter and with mainstream journalism.
I still remember the hilarious way that Yoko Taro handled people complaining about 2B being sexualised leading up to NieR: Automata's release. Rather than cave into the crowd complaining and change 2B's design, he stood his ground. Since he knew the porn would be made anyway, he basically gave the green light to make it and tweet it to him.
The fact that nobody ever complains (or if they do, it's astronomically rare) about male characters getting sexualised shows a huge double standard, if you're fine with one gender being sexualised, you must be fine with both or neither, you can't say one is fine and one isn't.
There's one reason why the sexualisation of characters of both sexes is such a prevalent thing in all forms of media, and it all boils down to one simple phrase, "Sex Sells".
The male ideal you see in games is a look you can only really get from being overweight by packing on 100lbs of barely functional glamour muscle, getting down to like .000001% body fat and severely dehydrating yourself.
No one complains about male sexualization because no one really cares, men included. Women enjoy it and men couldn't care less if the assortment of pixels on their TV makes them look like a slob by comparison. Women, however, just seem to hate ♥♥♥♥ anyone or anything that's more attractive than them, and of course wherever there's angry women there's an army of obedient White Knights fighting by their side.
People just need to enjoy the escapism of it all and stop pushing their personal hang ups onto games.
but female armor is best armor ... if you get what i mean like ... distraction and so on :o.
iunno just random. why does that even matter, is OP a feminist or something like that x.x?
why can ya not just play a game without smashing your brain against the wall and then forcing to think about things like this really hard. just enjoy the game u,,u.
I wasn't talking about that specifically, but it is a very good example of my point. They cover the cleavage on a 15 year old girl, and people lost their ♥♥♥♥.
