FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Do you use Standard or Legacy movement settings?
This settings thingy came into my head from another topic and might be useful for some new players also, who think the combat/targeting and all-round moving feels a bit "clunky" when everything is on standard settings as a beginner.

When started to play, the setting starts as Standard, and many settings are (imo) so that the combat, ui and targeting feels (for me) really clunky and slowish.

I remember the first couple days i played with Standard settings.. but with someone guiding me after i asked if there are settings that makes the game and combat more smooth, someone told me to try the Legacy settings, and activate the "Face target automatically when using skill/ability" things and so on, and "Auto targeting" with the cone preference, so can just do skill rotation without all the time circling targets first and only after using skills. So much faster and smooth.

And with switching a lot of keybinds on top of the Legacy setting.. the game feels completely different (in a good way) to me and combat, targeting and movement & camera using is actually fun and efficient. Like almost different game feel completely.

So my question is, how many here of the "oldies" use the Standard movement setting and can you make it feel good or did it just happen when got used to it? And have you ever tried the Legacy setting to compare the two and how did that feel for you?

Also, even i think i got the controls and settings i enjoy, but if anyone has any "super secret" settings and control tips they wanna share, then please do and i shall love you if it makes my gaming even better. ^^

Like a mouse over macro as a healer changed my life. So you can just hover mouse cursor over party member and heal them without switching manually target away and back from boss/tank for quick help on dps for example. So smooth to heal like that. Was a gamechanger tier thing for me, after switching to the Legacy and other control settings. :)

I prefer legacy with A and D bound to strafe left/right instead of move.
This way, while also holding down the right button i can start moving in any direction instantly. It took some getting used to, but i only ever log in to raid nowadays and for that purpose i find it superior since for me it makes dodging gaze mechanics a lot easier vs the default settings.

I reckon most people who raid stick to legacy, it's usually one of the first things people recommend to players looking to get into savage etc, to switch to legacy.

I only ever switch back to standard when i want to pose for a gpose, it's easier to do those really small movements like standing next to someone or something just right on standard.

I tried Legacy often and while it looked somewhat good at times, it still felt lacking when I needed my controls the most. (I use keyboard and mouse, not a controller). I guess I am stuck as using Standard. I don't even use mouse over because I'm used to switch myself.

If both of these things are good for you, more power to you. The fact FFXIV can be at least a little customised like this to fit each players' styles is really good. What matters at the end is how well you use these controls to play well. Maybe one day I'll try legacy again...

Yeah, i think it's very much a personal preference, and often maybe the feel of movement being camera based or character based (to simplify) can already been coming from some previous game and people use what feels "familiar/natural" to them. Like setting same kind of keybinds on same keys so game is already sort of in the muscle memory after playing previous mmo. :)

And yes, there are benefits on the Standard and i know many damn good players who use it, so not saying it is worse. Just for me it felt a bit odd and i felt like someone had switched the places of my right and left hand, so had bad coordination and camera angle management on the baby Fates and stuff. :D

Most likely if had stuck with it, would be really hard to switch since things become preference after long enough. So yeah i understand fully. :)

And yeah, i use keyboard and mouse too. Alltho i think it would be damn chill probably to play with a controller and just chill on the couch. ^^

Edit: I took off strafe keybinds, never have needed them, did put something else on those well available buttons. :)
