Do people really play this game with english voices?
I've played the game before and i skipped through the story to just do end-game raiding with my friend so i didnt really realize it back then but i made a new character to play with a friend from a different continent and im trying my best to pick up some of the story but the voice acting is just so cringy and unbearable.

Sometimes in a main story duty there will just be non-voiced dialogue.. and then suddenly a random dialogue will be voiced. People say the games best part is the story, and maybe it is but its really hard to enjoy it when its executed so poorly. I swapped to Japanese and its more bearable because i simply don't understand it. Sadly had to skip a bunch of cutscenes because it got so cringy.

The music is fire though

Even then, clearly the game is a Japanese style game, so Japanese voices match better imo.

Even with the characters who are meant to be European or West or Central Asian?
Yeah, style of game is still different.

I never heard japanese language but I know for a fact the voices I heard for the characters in english perfectly fitted them and their personality. Alisaie, Y'shtola and even Urianger had a pretty good sound to them. And I am someone who likes to hear Japanese in my JRPGs.

Nothing wrong if you find the japanese voices better, though. But seriously, ARR aside, the voice acting for english was pretty good all around. I feel perfectly immersed in that world as voices really seem to fit the characters they are given to. So in my case, no complaints.
That's okay! I can't pinpoint what it is but i simply don't like it as much. I'd love to enjoy it, but i sadly do not.

I would agree with you if the game's title was "Genshin Impact".
Why not if its final fantasy? clearly still a Japanese game, way different than any western game i've played.

It is indeed a Japanese game, however it doesn't have that hardcore japanese style that you'd expect from Japanese titles, just like most Final Fantasy games. I only know of one exception and it's World of Final Fantasy.
1st play through all in English since it has decent voice acting and matched some of the characters well. 2nd play though all Japanese with subs. I don’t blame you for skipping a lot of the cutscenes, most of it is just long winded filler since this mmo is very short story wise.

Doesn't need to be hardcore, i just believe Japanese voices are more fitting still ^^

Sure, but we're not just talking about voices here, the text is also very different, what they're saying in Japanese does not match the English text at all.

Did you not play FF1? Because it was clearly based off of D&D.

Yeah, the only reason I would call any numbered FF game Japanese is because they were made in Japan, not because of their style.

There is some stylistic differences between JRPGs (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy etc.) and WRPGs (Baldur's Gate, Ultima) but they have common ancestry that can't be ignored. Especially since Dragon Quest is explicitly inspired by Ultima.

And then there's the fact that FF14, as an MMO, has more in common the WRPGs than JRPGs.

FFXIV ARR was literally redid in the style of WoW. If we were talking about 1.0 I'd have a different opinion.

OP just has a personal preference and feels the need to justify it with something besides "I like it more", because for whatever reason s/he doesn't feel like they can like something just because and needs the validation of the community's agreement that it's objectively better (it's not).

If I understood JPN I would play with that language on, but only because I've heard it's way more hornt. And only after ARR, because Gideon Emery.

Yoshi-P has been up-front about the various inspirations for FF14 and they're all western MMOs, including WoW.

Conversely, 1.0 was based on a flaming heap of garbage.

I think my brother did. Then again he is one of those kind of people who plays on default settings and won't understand anything in the settings menu
