I have the non-steam XIV pc version. Can I link it to my steam account so I can download it on steam deck?

Yeah I'll have to do some research then. I was hoping I could link my account to my steam so it would make it way easier. Just found another guide but it looks like a 20 step process and gonna take some time to get it working. Thanks for responding and wish me luck.

XIVLauncher made a tutorial to get the game working on Steam Deck using their launcher if that helps: https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html

best you can do is use "steam" "add a game" option to add the windows version FF14 launcher.

No you cannot change from windows to steam or vice versa.

Banners and such may need to be done manually.

Ah, thats disappointing to hear. Thank for clarifying it.

You can play the Windows version on the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck is a computer, not a console, it doesn't prevent you from playing games that aren't on Steam.

Not sure how to. I tried look up guides but I couldn't get the FFXIV.exe setup to run on window mode.

Simple google search would have answered that question.

I doubt that, this is literally the first result when I searched with a few keywords from your post:

As far as I understand the instructions linked in this thread are outdated. OP is right, it's difficult to find the correct up to date information. The XIVLauncher instructions were the only up to date instructions I could find.

When I said mixed answers I mean I've read through several of them and some are saying yes and some are saying no. There were also mulltiple instruction on how to link your FFXIV account to steam which there is even an option

You know you are being extremely assuming right?

I did in fact google it prior to asking for help here. I said Mixed answer as in when I was searching I saw multiple articles, threads that had suggested the opposite of each other.

My first search result for "can I link my FFXIV account to steam" which was the main question I was asking the first answer I got from google was

"Starting in early March 2022, users who log in using a Steam version service account will be prompted to perform a one-time link of their Steam account to their Square Enix account" which suggested you can now link steam to your FFXIV account but they did not clarify this was one way from Steam -> FFXIV but you cannot link a pre-existing FFXIV PC account to steam.

which at first made me think it is possible. I even logged on to Mogstation and found the option to link until I realize Steam was the only grayed out option.

Googled specifically Non-steam PC version linking to steam and saw some saying no while in some guides it says you can get around it by downloading the demo version on steam and log in.

Tried it out, even saw the connect to see the confirmation button glow, hit it but the client just closed immediately after that. Tried it again and this time the client said my account is not eligible instead.

This is all the while I was trying to get the window version of the game run but of the first few guide I tried to follow at that point seemed to be out dated and I was having trouble running the .exe setup because linux isn't capable of running the .exe by default. You would know this if you could have bothered to read what was previously written in the comment section or actually knew anything about the subject instead of saying "just google it".

The answer I seem to have reached in the end is that you can connect your FFXIV to Steam's account only if you did not have the PC version. However this was after going through articles that suggest I can which is why I finally decided to come here. Sure enough the first person responding confirms it cannot be done.

So yes, I did actually google it before asking. I came here to confirm my question. No you did not help at all and judging from your various post you enjoy belittling people.

You are rude and extremely unhelpful and unless you are genuinely trying to help and not belittle others do not bother responding back.

Have a nice day.

Did you try the XIVLauncher method? It seems that it's what most people are doing.

Yes. I did try several methods I found through googling but it yielded inconsistent result and answers. It's been hit and miss.

Also thank you for the link. I've been able to get .exe step up working since then and the launcher made it possible to run the game because it seems the OS by default believes the client closed the moment the login screen closes result in the game shutting down again.

I had to dig through the app pages but I found it and its going in the right direction.

Good stuff, glad to see you got it figured out. I'm not super hopeful about this but I hope Square Enix does something about Steam Deck support for the normal Windows version.
