Speaking of the devil.. that is what it says to me at least anytime i try to launch the game so that my Steam window is not maximized (don't ask why, no idea..) and open. And only thing that makes it launch is to logout from Steam, log back and relaunch so that the Steam window is fully open on background while using the game launcher.
Worth a try at least before trying other more effort taking things.
It started to do and "demand" my steam window to be open and be sensitive about it some months ago or something and sometimes the "You are now connected to the steam community" message shows for a moment at the right lower corner when logging in with the launcher, means it works lol.
SE has many sources from which it downloads and the launcher uses in general your main browser library. if you have a certain language pack not installed for example japanese Katakana etc. can it happen that the browser library stumbles over one of those sources, doesnt understands the symbols in it, tries to turn it into its usual command line to create said sign in the browser thing but it would invalidate the source and you end up with an error. thats simply how it happens. this can be either your problem cause you do not have the language installed or your providerserver which has the same problem, thats why some peoples solved this issue simply with using a vpn cause a vpn needs to know all this stuff too. tho its rarely the provider since their servers need to be full on international. so, if ya have luck on the next try stumble you not over the source again which the launcher tried to use before. iunno if it is true but thats how i got it explained on reddit like 5 times and those ppls sounded pretty nerdy <,<
the XIV launcher just prios the english sources, thats why it works way better when updating.
the DX11 thing is a YOUR PC problem and only you can fixx this. it often happens when files got corrupted during the download for which you then could blame SE but then again, only you can tell your PC "verify file integrity" or "redownload the damn thing again" aka, only you can fixx it x3.
i honestly dont understand why the original launcher cant just prio english sources aswell when the launcher is set to english
anyways, since i installed Katakana and kanji on my pc had i never again an cant update [xxxxxx] issue.
and no, xiv launcher simply downloaded everything needed. it asks you for a reason for admin rights when it installs stuff so it probably fixxed your DX11 aswell.
i recomment you to look up for what Direct X is. you may learn stuff and it will tell you that DX errors are to 99% PC related. the left over 1% are game related aka when a library of the game is either damaged or corrupted.
gimme another jester award pls .... lol.
