White Mage vs. Scholar vs. Astrologian
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGfzeBmCsPQ
-- Healers --
White Mage (WHM) = Burst Healing (Large healing in one heal.)
Astrologian (AST) = Full Support (Low DPS, Medium Heals, Lots of Buffs)
Scholar (SCH) = Mitigation Healing (Shield with Adloquium, heal with Physick.)
-- DPS --
Bard (BRD) = Sustained DPS / Support (Has songs that can restore MP and TP)
Ninja (NIN) = Sustained DPS
Dragoon (DRG) = Burst DPS (High Damage in one single hit for each skill.)
Summoner (SMN) = Damage over Time / Debuffs (Pet = 33% Your Damage)
Monk (MNK) = Sustained DPS
Black Mage (BLM) = Burst DPS (Highest Burst in the Game as of this post.)
-- Tank --
Paladin (PLD) = Mitigation / Defensive Tank (Built-In Mitigation with Block Rate.)
Warrior (WAR) = Offensive / Parry Tank (Highest HP with Defiance.)
Dark Knight (DRK) = Median Tank (Sort of a combination between PLD/WAR, also reduces magic damage of enemies. This is probably the easiest tank to pick up off the bat.)
Paladin is the easiest tank, no real resource stacking needed, and you usually stay in shield oath unless you're the off-tank. Bard is the easiest DPS, because Machinist has turrets, and Bard is just supportive only needs to worry about itself rather than real placement with turrets, it also has less combos / etc. to worry about. For healer, the easiest to learn is White Mage, Astrologian is easily the most complex, since the developers tried to make a full support healer for the first time in the game, and Scholar requires some fairy placement / etc. to really get into it.
I like how you ignored the Machinist Job XD
*points at the Dark Knight and Astrologian right there* :P
it's literally the same as BRD except less of a focus on support
Not really considering it has a lot of burst but a pain in the ass RNG.
I say they only "should" do that if they know where they are going or are confident on the tank and DPS skills. When I leveled my healers every once in a while I would get a party that tanks would use no defensive cooldowns or DPS wouldn't dodge aoes and ended up dying because I couldn't turn off Cleric Stance in time. Tank busters are also something to bear in mind.
@OP Consider going for Bard, they have a few nice support skills if used on the proper time, and so does MCH (but that one you only unlock after beating first expansion). I consider SCH healing lower than what WHM can achieve, but they have a lot of other defensive or support buffs, like skill/spell speed and shields, you also get a regen depending on what fairy you are using. White Mage is the "burst healer", you can get single target people hp up faster, and also has regens, but is somewhat lacking in shields.
Oh yeah 4got that part.
