FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Client download size
Seriously Valve/Square Enix??? So first I get told it's a 8.5GB download, ok fine, I can live with that. But once I finish friggin around with all the registration crap, the FFXIV client actually has the temerity to tell me it has to d/l another 15.5GB just to get *started*!!??? Do these guys have a back-end deal with my ISP or something ffs? Are there any game/net coders left who can actually program tight, efficient, bug-free code...? Unbelievable. >:-(

lol you know its a large game right? the 15.5GB is pretty much the whole game you are downloading has nothing to do on steams end. its not a bug lol

oh pretty much you are downloading the client and base game I believe in the launcher you download patches and what not.
Welcome to MMOs on Steam.

That 8.5gb was for the game up o patch 2.3 (or around there)
The extra is everything since then all the way up to 3.3.

YAY! So Valve/Steam now has a policy of being at least 2 years behind current version for any mmos they resell? Great.
Game Total Size is 22GB....
and its common that most MMO on steam ONLY keeps the Vanilla Clients
if you are complaining then you must be new to MMOs
its so basic that you only download the base or basic game and client launcher then the patch updates will fill in.

No silly player. They only have default client as Steam doesn't handle patches/updates that's what the laucher is for. Cause you know not every game starts on Steam.

Bare in mind I don't think this includes Heavensward.

If you have to download it again, you probably did something that you shouldn't have.

i downloaded the game last week. Today i must download this game again (8GB Steam + 15,5GB Launcher). No no no, i will not play this game longer. WoW have a better Client pathing system. I dont want download 22 GB every week.

It's not the games fault that your PC is screwing something up. Find out what it is, fix it and you wont have to download it every week.
Do i need to explain again the Download are all in Packet Sizes so it will download per Patch packets and install each separately. If you interrupt and exit the patching, it will reset. This is due to security reasons.
yeah i got an update error after 2gb and then it restarted and i got a monthly data cap . . . starting to regret getting this just cause it was on sale

People...the issue here you're all missing is very simple. If you're going to have to download 24GB of data just to start playing the damn game, then Steam should say so, regardless of where it comes from! Showing the intial 8.5GB front-end size is clearly misleading & I misconstrued this to be expanded to the 20GB disk space listed against the sys reqs, which is also completely wrong btw! (I am actually somehow only using 17.7GBs in my FFXIV steam folder under common, go figure where 7GBs of download went lol!).

And now I've also read online that the initial chunk is just for lower levels/zones, so when I hit level 20 or 30 I'll need to d/l yet another 10-20GBs??? FFS, can anyone please confirm this either way? Cheers!

*stares at other MMOs like TERA, Warframe, Heroes & Generals, D&D Neverwinter, Elder ScrollsOnline (This ♥♥♥♥♥♥ was 50GB+ like TERA), Ragnarok 2. etc etc*

Uh what? must be talking about Free Trial. Because usually the client will download everything besides Heavensward if you don't own it.

This is steam and they have no power to control all 3rd party MMO's and they don't store all the latest patchs/updates. This has been common for a long time and if you have to complain then download the Non-Steam clients then.
