I really hope Shadowbringers is better than Stormblood

Im a new player and i just finished Stormblood but man What the hell happened? Heavensward was a fantastic expansion with an amazing story and awesome characters, it was well paced, interact and it felt like a massive improvement compared to ARR, i just finished the MSQ of Stormblood and man what a trainwreck.

The story felt so disjointed, unfocused and the pacing is all over the place, the imperials were far worse compared to how they were in ARR and lyse is probably one of the lamest and most horribly written characters i have seen in a very long time now this in itself is not a problem if she was a minor character but guess what? she is with you throughout the entirety of the expansion and she has no chemistry with any of the characters, dont get me wrong there are some of the main characters that i liked like gosetsu, yugiri, twins and hien but the problem is that for some reason the expansion revolves around her she devours the screen time that many of the other characters could have used like alamhigo was supposed to be raubhan's arc, speaking of which the split of doma and alamhigo was a huge mistake and i felt that they realised this very later in development and it shows.

Now its very important to give credit where it deserves, the art direction and visuals are fantastic, the dungeons were good and i have been doing the level 70 blue side quests and they are fantastic im also really enjoying the omega quest aswell.

Anyway im just very frustrated by how terrible the story was and im just wondering is shadowbringers more of stormblood? are they finally going to sideline lyse for actual good characters that need that screen time? are the villains compelling ? stormblood tested my patience way more than ARR(minus the level 50 MSQ these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucked) atleast ARR was paced very well and was easier to follow.

Also, you don't fix societal problems quickly. We don't know if Hien is trying to get the societal problems to change or how he is doing it if he is.

Just look at how long it takes to change real world societies and how long it takes us to change. We're still changing with regards to racism and LGBTQ acceptance and those have been started for years, decades ago for the former.

Given FFXIV exists under a time bubble, I wouldn't expect to actually see any changes unless they become a story focus.

The story only happens if the devs make it happen. Fixing those kinds of issues in Doma can only happen if the devs do it. That's not Hien's fault. They're choosing not to tell that kind of story. Otherwise we'd have him knocking down the doors of brothels with a good old fashioned Midare.

I was trying to make the point less about Alisaie and more about that would have been a good opportunity to improve Lyse's character which failed. I think it's one of the reasons people don't like her. They had a perfectly good chance to carry forward what started in the opening, but didn't.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to not like her character because of stuff like that.

The thing is, Hien WASN'T. His flaw was literally to ignore that the culture he so glorified had ugly parts to it until it bit him in the ass. It's why he ADDRESSES IT in EW's role quest. Just like how Aymeric addresses that the good people in the church who did mean well did exist alongside the awful ones in EW. They ARE telling the story with Hien, people just miss that the story is that Hien is a flawed as frig person who literally co-opted a culture's sacred ritual to get soldiers to fight his war. Hien hadn't even STARTED until EW. The fact he even began to make any progress at all is called character development. My point was, with Hien, that he's a flawed man whose flaws are ignored because people either don't Get It, or those flaws aren't palatable.

I will agree, Lyse's portrayal is flawed, but people also don't... Approach her character correctly to begin with. I've seen people call her a colonizer like she ain't Ala Mhigan herself and grappling with feeling like an outsider because her dad was lucky enough to get her to safety and away from Garlean rule.

Perception changes based on feelings. Anyone who bounces off Lyse to start off with wont give her a fair shake no matter what. But if the writing is flawed and pushes people away from the character to begin with, is that the players fault or the writers fault for not telling a good enough story?

Stormblood has great endgame content but the MSQ was weak, I agree. Gets better again with Shadowbringers and Endwalker.

Im currently almost half way through SHB and im just glad that they really learned from their mistakes from Stormblood especially when it comes to handling the worldbuilding, story and characters im also really loving emet selch aswell AND NOT BECAUSE OF HIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GENDER.

The problem with Stormblood is that it's after Heavensward,
Shadowbringers is a 10/10 on all aspects, even better than Heavensward.
Endwalker ? Ho boy, you'll have to see for yourself.
