!!! You have to do this process every time you want to play !!!

Do not reinstall FFXIV or Gshade (Wasted time) try this method ^_^
Steam and SE is the Problem; Please Follow this
1 Start FFXIV Launcher via Steam
2 Launch XIV and login normally.
3 After the game is fully loaded, exit Steam.
4 Open Tastmanager and Kill Steam processor
5 Click on "PLAY"
6 Optional Steam again starting
The problem is all on SE and Steam because they did something again. Gshade has absolutely nothing to do with it. I reinstalled the game yesterday before work, it did nothing. Reinstalling Gshade doesn't do anything either.

I'm not looking forward to doing this everytime I wanna play the game, if it has nothing to do with GShade here's hoping they'll actually fix this.
this works perfectly. I might add that after you manage to launch the game this way, you can then launch the Steam as well, the game holds too (running on my primary screen as I type this). Absolute legend, many thanks for this

Since Yesterday update, after entering login ID, i click "play" and then i got a black screen. I've no mods installed, for 9hrs+ i've tried a LOT of tips given online, nothing arranged it. And yeah, Directx9 isn't a solution :/ Does Square Enix will do anything???

This worked, give it a try after crashing several times and having do many methods for it to work.
I dont mind the extra work just to play, i just hope they can fix this soon and not later.

Black screen after launching the game
I logged into the game just fine yesterday. Now, after downloading the 6.2 patch, after clicking on "play", game launches, expands to fullscreen, but the screen stays black. When I click mouse button while on the black screen, the game closes and I have to re-start launcher, put in login details again, rinse and repeat. Is this happening to anyone else?
EDIT: BEST TEMPORARY SOLUTION SO FAR THAT WORKS:
1. Launch the game through Steam
2. Log-in with your account details, but DO NOT press the Play button
3. While the launcher is on the screen where you can see the Play button, launch the Task Manager, and end the Steam process
4. After Steam has been forcibly closed, press Play
5. The game should work as normal

best answer i've seen and it worked for me
best part is that peoples blamed steam first and then its suddenly gshade o_o.
In short:
If it smells like a pig, looks like a pig and gruntz like one, it likely is related to SE's Steam incorporation.
its always either SE´s or steams fault, never the users or the users PC´s fault
wrong account linked? --> steams fault (not the error of the user)
mail cant be registred? --> must be SE´s horrible account system (totally not the users mistake somewhere)
account recovery needs too long? --> totally the supports fault ... not the users fault which maybe dosnt gives the information SE wants or filling the form wrong out.
i could write more examples down and on all of these turned it at the end out that it was either the PC´s fault, the users fault or the providers fault (provider like cant download patch xxxxx etc.)
indeed, it is always [insert your target you desire here] to mask that it maybe could´ve been a problem with your PC.
this pattern gets really annoying >_>.
am waiting now for a reply which says "then you are one of the luckyones which are unaffected". yepyep. that must be the truth. =w=.
A patch that, again, once more changed how SE launchers interact with Steam. Just because some OS will be equipped to deal with it - afterall SE tested it on certain setups which clearly worked - doesn't mean all OS and configs work. As such they broke their compatibility with the wide mass.
Next to no game on Steam has trouble starting due to Steam running itself. This is 100% SE's failure. No one said Steam - as in Valve - is at fault. Everyone here pretty much summized SE messed up their Steam overlay integration which causes some deadlock.
If you can't figure out that people don't blame Valve here but SE, I can not help you. My time is not here to waste on the fact to explain and repeat the fact to your face that a PATCH of SE broke their own game for a major player group related to Steam.
