Which classes have the least global cooldowns?
I'm new,and trying to find which class I wanna main. At the moment I'm trying out gladiator, but all the skills go on cooldown at the same time even ones I haven't used. This mechanic feels sorta weird is there a class that doesn't feel this way? Are all the tank classes have global cooldowns? I just sorta want to spam my abilities.

All the classes in the game have several skills that share a cooldown and several skills that have their own timers.

Uh...this is pretty standard for tab targeting MMO's. Your weaponskill inputs are limited by the games GCD. You get abilities that are off the global, but those are either have long cool downs or are utility type skills to set up your opener and to buff the party etc....

Also, this game runs off the trinity system and a gladiator is a tank, so keep that in mind. If you don't like the GCD I would suggest playing a caster like a BLM since their cast times are generally the length of the GCD anyways.

You're not going to be able to just spam abilities. If you want a more action type of MMO you're probably better off playing something like ESO or Black Desert and what not.

well playing conjurer didn't feel that way. Using one ability didn't make every other skill I owned go on cooldown,so why is the gladiator like this?

CNJ has the same global cool down restrictions as gladiator and every other class in the game. Its just the cast times for casters are more or less the same length as the GCD. For melee classes all you have to fill the GCD out is the animation so it "feels" slower, especially at the early levels where there are very few buttons to press.

That is unfortunately a pretty big flaw with the game as it goes from pretty slow at the early levels and then getting to level cap and have 30+ skills with a lot of oGCD abilities speeding up the combat.

Are you sure about that? Casting anything causes most other casted spells go on GCD, you just don't really notice because you have cast times. Try casting Aero and then Stone.

ah I see thank you. maybe I should stick with casters then since they feel a bit better.

if you're curious, I would look up on youtube openers for level 90 jobs if you want to get a general idea of what combat looks like at level cap. Like I said, the low levels unfortunately suffer from the old designs so its pretty slow and doesn't really pick up until after level 30 and even then the jobs don't start coming together until after level 50.

A lot of that sadly has to do with the level cap increases over the years and the removal of skills that used to fill the gaps in low levels and newer skills not coming in until later in the game, mostly because they don't want those higher potency damage abilities being used in low level content.

I did look up some videos, and it does look like it gets faster, but it feels better when casting cause after the spell ends I can just cast a new spell so it feels like there isnt a downtime, but for like say gladiator where I use a skill there a short downtime where I'm just sitting there doing nothing untill the global cooldown finishes, and I can do another skill. I'm sure this would get better later on as you said in later levels, but I'll probably use such classes as more of an alt rather than a main class, so I'm trying out thaumaturge now.

Heh, if you really want to cast all the time, with your sole purpose and creed to be the ABC (always be casting) then go with black mage. Starts as thaumaturge in ul'dah. You even have casts that are LONGER than the global cooldown.

Yea thats what I just swapped too,and feels pretty good so far, better than the tanks at least for me. I like how the casting feels, for some reason it reminds me of the old school turn based games. I use to play one of the turn based ff games on old school psp,and it reminds me a lot like that in 14.

On paper I liked Bard the most, then I played Archer, and absolutely hated it. Seemed extremely spammy, *pew* *pew* *pew*

I was initially put off by the GCD too. Still new and not too sure about it yet. Just more accustomed to it.

Well after swapping to black mage today leveled it to 25,and can say I'm having a way better time now. I'll probably make it my main, but I'll give some of the other classes that are GCD more of a try after unlocking some different classes at 50+,and see if I can get into it without the GCD annoying me to death.

You are one step closer to the truth, black mage functions exactly like a turn based job, with mana ticks being there to add some spice to cursed rotation lines
