Solution for the unable to launch FFXIV updater error

It has a lot to do with permissions in your my documents folder. Simply go to:

C:\Users\<user>\Documents\my games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn

delete all the contents in there, and then right click on the folder itself; it'll be set as read only. Uncheck that.

You should be set after that. Boot up final fantasy XIV, and enter Eorzea.

Had this issue, tried several other solutions - this one worked. Didn't have to delete anything, just go to the folder and switch off 'read only' (folder is hidden, so you can't navigate to it or see it unless hidden folders are visible, but typing in the address works to go to the folder whether it's hidden or not)

People say ARR is the biggest threat to sprouts and new players but it's really the outdated launcher using Internet Explorer.

The folder revers back to read only even though I am logged with the only account on the PC and the account is administrator.

Same issue here. It instantly goes back to read-only.

Note: Thanks to changes with onedrive, you may find that you'll have to revert the permissions from time to time. This is down to microsoft user policies and the way final fantasy is installed.

In the extreme, one way around this is to create an offline account or remove your account from onedrive synching.
