But it also makes it more likely that you'll walk away with nothing. Getting a portal is, what, a 50% chance? Rolling on loot against an entire party is only 12.5%.
That entirely depends on the size of the party. And I find it more fun to get to roll more often, even if I only win once, or even lose every single roll. If everyone brings same amount of maps, it's same level of "fairness" as owner needs, but less chance of "welp, no portal, I guess I'll do 20 more maps with the group for no chance for any loot anymore."
The chance caps at 50% if you're only running a two person party, so it's still less than a portal no matter what you do.
That's where the difference lies, then, since I would rather not roll in someone else's portal, if that means everything in my portal is guaranteed.
It's the same level of fairness that they'll get a portal, though. It's all up to RNG no matter what, but everyone rolling need just adds a new layer of RNG to it.
It depends, there is no one agreed-upon ruleset. Talk about it with your party beforehand, come to a consensus, and if anyone gets angry because it's not their preferred rules, then politely inform them that there are other parties they can go to.
The first is: Owner Need Else Greed. This is the best system because it encourages others to contribute as many maps as possible for high returns, and everyone walks away with more gil than they started with.
The second is: Free for all. This is more common among friends or FCs. It's a gamble, your returns can be high or low, but again you will always walk away with more gil than you started with. The problem with this one is that other players will want to contribute as little as possible to the map pool, because they stand to lose out on profit by doing so. So this ruleset requires clear rules on map contribution else you're just losing out to greedy players.
Owner gets the loot outside
FFA Needs inside the dungeon.
I think this is because on SOME maps, the dungeon portal isn't 100% but even on maps where it is 100%, there's no guarantee on how far you get through the RNG.
it also prevents people from "suddenly" being called away after getting a valuable drop. You have to actually run a map or two if you want to get anything.
EXACTLY! if I've learned anything from FFXIV, it's that people are more than willing to take advantage of the kindness of strangers, that this game has a reputation of having, for their own gains.
