This is an MMO with a sub model, so yes, there's a monthly subsciption that you have to pay in order to play after you've paid for the inital price of the game and used up the free month that comes with it.

There is no single player. This is an online only multiplayer game. There is plenty to do alone, but you exist in an online world with thousands of others.

You must buy the base game (A Realm Reborn) and also pay a $13-15 fee per month to play. The cost is more than worth it for what you get. The base game comes with your first 30 days of subscription time free.
