Why is the game losing its player base
The game used to have 40,000-50,000 players daily and now there are only around 28,000-30,000 people playing daily what caused this to happen?

Steam isn't everything and actualy a small percentage. This game was around at least 7 years even before it was on Steam. The Japanese market i huge. I don't have this game on Steam. I purchased through square and play through them...Just like most everybody else. Steam is nothing in FF 14s population.

I can't speak for everyone here but for me personally it's because I'm simply tired of dealing with the same gameplay loop over and over again. I'm also tired of simply playing this game as I've been here under a wide array of accounts since 2010 ffs (square enix you really have to fix your bloody account system as i've literally bought this game over 7 times throughout it's whole lifecycle including the account I currently use)

My Rant
Yes, near the end of Shadowbringers they introduced some new types of gameplay that was mostly just repurposed 1.0/ffxi content and such but it was short lived. I hear they plan on adding more things in Endwalker which even if they do it simply won't be enough for me and while I understand that many people here are new or just completely blinded by the worship they have over the game director Yoship (yes the yoship cult rumors you heard is a real thing) and e-celebs recently picking up the game only for the community to most likely eventually try and kick them out through death threats [i[(i.e. scottzone)[/i].

The game in it's current form is literally just a WoW 2.0 and honestly? I've always hated that game and it's themepark style as a whole. the whole reason why I originally bought this game was because the world was alive and large in scale (which it got shrunk in 2.0 as a developer confirmed to me years ago during 2.0), it focused on group play, it rewarded skill and creativity, and it also allowed you to effectively build your own class which here's two video covering the tools used to essentially build your own class:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ynVbZMcj38
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGNlv1cO8m4

not only that but now everything in the game is instanced based and cut into pieces (case in point La Noscea is cut up into 6 maps[www.ffxivinfo.com] instead of 1 large one[vignette.wikia.nocookie.net]) and the removal of Open Dungeons alongside the mogstation basically allowing you spend money so you don't have to play through the game or just let your money level up your retainers for you. I've personally have very little reason to continue playing outside of nostalgic attachment to the product and hope that i'll eventually get to play the version I liked again... 1.0.

many people that share my points but only pretend to hate 1.0 so they won't get death threats sent to them or risk losing their accounts and thus most players stick to either being passive aggressive ingame (which the new players[forum.square-enix.com] finally noticed) or simply don't bother talking much ingame.

If Square Enix literally sold 1.0 as it's own game with it's own subscription like they do with FFXI I will be among the 750k (based on how many bought ffxiv during 1.0) that would play it over the wow 2.0 A Realm Reborn reboot.

Now if you excuse me I'm going back to playing video games instead of debate since I just want to play video games, not debate.

Imagine playing an MMO and then complaining about gameplay loops. Also 1.0? really? You lose any and all credibility trying to mention anything about 1.0. That game was pure trash fire and it got burned to the ground for a reason. No sane person legitimately liked that game.

So you are trying to say that the game was dumbed down by quality of life changes?
The 99.9% of the playerbase dont share your opinion and you can clearly see how popular this game has become after the reboot.

So it would be a comercially worse product :V

Lucky bancho has tallied a grand total of 1.6 million lv 61 characters. That's more than twice. And that is without taking into account the people doing the free trial or the subscribed players, which is roughly about 2 millions.

But yeah, clearly square enix should have gone for a 5th of the playerbase.
They should just turn PvP into some sort of FFXI Mini Game where you can Mix skills from all the jobs in the game, that way people who somehow liked OG FFXIV will be happy and PvP might actually be some what unique and maybe even fun. :SisterRom:

Damn i hope we get more Glam storage soon, i am all out, plates too, i need more plates.
People defending 1.0 are some of the strangest people around. They must have some weird kind of masochistic fetish to enjoy going through such insanely bad game design.

Reminds me when i heard about this person named Rokien, who is apparently a legend among the ff14 forums for defending some of the weirdest things about 1.0.. Like was one post he complained about people jumping too much.. because 1.0 didn't have jumping..

It doesnt matter how many non-steam-players you have, because the percentage of steam players will stay roughly the same, therefore the change in playercounts on steam represent the whole playerbase in terms of change, not numbers.

If the playerbase grows on steam, so does it outside of steam, and if it declines, it does so outside of steam too.

I would argue, that steam is around 10% of the total playerbase, thats more than big enough regarding "sample size".
It's around 1% actually. If you take into account, the daily players is 3.5 million to 4.2 million, before End Walker(God it's gonna be murder come End Walker) That means 35,000-42,000 on Steam.

Also, one thing every keeps forgetting, just because we're on Steam, doesn't mean we're using Steam.

See the mouse at my name? I'm in FFXIV currently, yet shows me not playing anything. Why is that? Most of the smart ones use the -issteam tag so Steam isn't needed to run.

So ya... Even those of us on Steam, not showing us playing =P

Where do you get these imaginary numbers from? around 4million? How? Not even close.
Would think absolute max is 2million and that is including trial players as Luckybancho only counts active players up from 60.

And Steam being only 1% what a joke. Steam is a biggest game platform out here in the West and most widely known.

Easy, over 30 million subscribers, certain things not allowed in game that tracks players numbers per server, getting you an average daily player base of 3.5 million to 4.2 million.

And Steam being big means nothing. Most prefer the stand alone launcher, or just remove steam from the Steam Launcher, or use a Third party launcher.

So yes, Steam is a whopping 1% of the playerbase. You may not like it, but how it is.

That's like saying WoW wasn't big back in the day, since not on Steam...

Or did you forget, Japanese region and consoles are also not on Steam? I mean, don't be daft... Do some research.

That's why it shows so few on Steam. There's tons playing via Steam, but it's not showing them, thus the numbers aren't correct.

It had 22 million back in April, 27 million in August. It kinda blew up... I don't mind more people, but don't want a lot of the WoW playerbase in the game, coming from someone who used to raid HC there.

That's incorrect. Square Enix stated in April that the total amount of registered accounts exceeded 22 million. These also contain free trial registrations. They are NOT active accounts or even subs. They're counting total accounts.

The subs are probably in the low seven digits.

Ah, fair point then. So 22 million accounts in April, 27 in August, Unknown for now until probably after End Walker release.

No, you're mixing registered accounts. those are not subscribers nor active players, mate.
