Why is the game losing its player base
The game used to have 40,000-50,000 players daily and now there are only around 28,000-30,000 people playing daily what caused this to happen?

Some people just don’t understand how games work. The numbers drop off until the next content drop, then they go up again.

Just FYI - when the numbers go back down after Endwalker, you don’t need to come back and tell us that the game is dying again. The numbers will go back up for the next content drop. That’s how games work.

People are holding out until EW. Theres also no reason to stay subbed all the time unless u own a house, the game doesnt enslave its playerbase. The producer himself encouraged people to take breaks and play something thats not FFXIV, I personally find this casual-like attitude very pleasant.

We closed october 2020 with 16k. now we are at about 26k on october. the game didn't lose players, it almost doubled its playerbase. it's just that mny of the players that got in via the exodus have dropped (not their cup of tea). additionally, many veterans and regulars are also not playing ffxiv because, well, the last piece of new content was dalriada and that one came like 6 months ago. Frankly, it's downright impressive the game is doing this well under the current circumstances. Lucky bancho did a census and, even under the current circumstances, the number of subs (calculated from lv 61+ players) went up by a third.

It gets demolished after 40-45(?) days. So you can safely unsub for a month

Because players like me haven't logged in consistently for the past month since there's little for us to do right now till the expansion comes out.

Ive done all I want to do until End Walker and I am catching up on my single player game catalog. I like games that let me do other things and dont hold me hostage with endless grinds.

This game was available for years before it came to steam. Of course the numbers aren't super high and they probably wont be until EW.

Didn't player numbers just recently explode to the point where they're considering actually adding servers? I'd say this game is pretty alive and well.

May was ~30k and then June was ~60k. It's slowly dropped back down since then as the new players have either moved on or finished the MSQ and are now waiting for Endwalker.

I think we'll see much more than that 60k once Endwalker releases.

my conservative estimate is 70k. my bet 100-110k.

To clarify: They were already planning on adding more servers, due the steady rise in players over the entirety of Shadowbringers. It's just the very sudden influx got them to move up their timetable as much as possible.

Including plans to add an entire SEA datacenter. It's very safe to say the player count is rising.

I'd bet money that XIV will break a few of its own player count records on steam when EW releases.

And, unfortunately, due to the chip shortage they aren't able to actually get those servers at the moment...
