Just FYI - when the numbers go back down after Endwalker, you don’t need to come back and tell us that the game is dying again. The numbers will go back up for the next content drop. That’s how games work.
We closed october 2020 with 16k. now we are at about 26k on october. the game didn't lose players, it almost doubled its playerbase. it's just that mny of the players that got in via the exodus have dropped (not their cup of tea). additionally, many veterans and regulars are also not playing ffxiv because, well, the last piece of new content was dalriada and that one came like 6 months ago. Frankly, it's downright impressive the game is doing this well under the current circumstances. Lucky bancho did a census and, even under the current circumstances, the number of subs (calculated from lv 61+ players) went up by a third.
Ive done all I want to do until End Walker and I am catching up on my single player game catalog. I like games that let me do other things and dont hold me hostage with endless grinds.
May was ~30k and then June was ~60k. It's slowly dropped back down since then as the new players have either moved on or finished the MSQ and are now waiting for Endwalker.
I think we'll see much more than that 60k once Endwalker releases.
Including plans to add an entire SEA datacenter. It's very safe to say the player count is rising.
