If you want a Semi Mobile Mage that ping pongs different spells, and can support a team if a Healer goes down, then the Red Mage is a good choice.
White Mage is probably the strongest healer right now, it has a lot of Free Heal abilities and doesn't require a lot of mana. If you just want to heal it is a good choice.
Remember that RDM being a DPS will have the Long Queues in dungeons, and WHM would have short queues. But that really just depends on your playstyle.
do you want to heal or do you want to do damage.
cause WHM is healer, RDM is damage. if you think RDM can do damage and healing equally good ... are you wrong. i mean sure, rdm can save an entire raid if done properly because of his dual cast thing but .... thats pretty much it. ^^
Doesn't use a lot of mana, what? WHM may be the most accessible/straight forward for new players, but it has outrageous mana costs with lackluster MP management making it far from the "best healer". Astrologian beats it in almost every way possible in terms of pure healing.
As for the OP. Play whatever you want, whenever you want. If WHM feels right to you and you don't mind spamming glare between oGCDs then go for it. RDM has great utility and support, and decent DPS. If that's your bag, go for it.
Sure.
Played both and have both over 80.
WHM
So, in terms of WHM, this job is, as you know, a pure healer, no real shields to speak of save for Asylum and Divine Benison. Divine Benison which is good for keeping tabs on the tank by giving them essentially a 500 potency damage shield, and can DoT and has some of the biggest single point heals in the game. They are also the only class with a pure Regen spell that is an instant cast. If you like being a 'pure healer' and being able to micromanage your heals (freecure!), AoE, and even reduce damage, this one is for you.
RDM
Red Mage is, as you know, a DPS that can also heal very well, and quick raise to the point of bringing up your whole party if necessary after a near wipe attack. I've done it plenty of times (everyone hates Mudman) and love being a rear support healer and one capable of not only saving the healers mana on raises, but allowing them to focus on healing others while I am their backup.
If you enjoy being that ace in the hole for a healer and your team, then a RDM that has good damage and AoE damage output, with the ability to quick raise and quick heal someone in less than 2 seconds (the second cast from Dualcast), then this one is for you.
It should be noted that a good RDM will also know most if not all of the mechanics that will occur in the battle they are fighting, as this is an important responsibility as a RDM. You can't be anyone ace in the hole, if your KO because you didn't bother being prepared.
My best to you, Scion.
