2: Not really, there's a rotation you must follow but there are ways to increase your DPS by playing around with timing of your burst phase to line up with raid buffs including your own buffs.
3: The game gears you up for content quite naturally, it's mindless tbh.
4: Yes all equipment is bound to specific classes except no-stat glamour stuff.
5: There's quite a few races to choose from yes, but the actual character creation isn't as in depth as some other MMOs, but you still got choices and the hair selection has grown over the years and you can unlock new hair styles and change your look paying in-game currency (literally pennies)
Considering we're on 6.0 and they actually did remake several jobs so far...
Build diversity in games like MMOs is a terrible idea.
People will either make a build that will gate them off from content or one build for each class will become the best one ultimately nullifying having a build diversity system in the first place.
That's why we have the term "Meta"
You don't need multiple characters for classes in classic MMO setup.
What makes FF different is that your one character can be any of the classes.
They didn't spend time on specs or specialties in each class to make multiple build types for one said class. For good reason, that kind of system you end up with the flavor of the month cookie cutter builds between patch tweaks.
You don't need to worry about that micro managing of skills like classic mmo's did.
Now if they throw in the old school "dual" job system, we can talk builds. =) That was the old MMO of FF. Ninja tanks =) Samurai/Rangers Good old days....
you will find your focus more directed in the story, the adventure, hunting, or simply achievements, mount hunting...much to do and less focus on building...more about adventure

3: no
4: yes, no
5: yes?
Im not sure a build system like that would work for ffxiv but i would not miss it in gw2.
Just because you're gonna have an easier time with your static doesn't mean it's impossible or something.
