FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Would you report an idle macro user?
I've seen tons of them and with the current situation I just find it extremely rude, especially when they do it blatantly in a public area.

GMs must deal with some inane reports amidst all the legitimate submissions.

"Yes, hello? I've been in this area twice already and have observed a certain player is still talking to the same NPC. Highly suspect them of circumventing game rules. They are probably using 3rd party software too, doesn't pay their taxes, doesn't make their bed, stole from cookie jar, ect.."

The amount of replies from people who don't know what they are talking about is becoming annoying.
Is it something we are allowed to report for? Because if so I'll start doing it. The login queues haven't really bothered me a whole lot personally because I have too much free time. But I can't stand selfish people who disregard the feelings of others, and staying logged in when you aren't playing is doing exactly that.

I've seen people who were walking in the same pattern over and over, obviously a prerecorded macro loop. People macro spamming the same three spells in towns back to back and so on. I didn't think it was something they wanted us to bother the Admins with but if it's something they have encouraged people to report I'll gladly do it.

Yes, you can report people for using tools to automate their character. That's basically what you would report them for. To my knowledge there's nothing rule-breaking about avoiding the AFK auto-logout. I've done that while working on a project in the house where I had frequent downtime between steps of the project. I would come in, move my character, maybe chat for a minute with FC mates, then go back to the project. There's no rule being broken there.

However, if I were to use a program to automate character input, THAT would break rules and be a reportable offense.

While I wouldn't bother reporting anyone (doesn't bother me enough), I have zero sympathy for anyone automating their character in public. That's like cutting in front of a cop in a line and stealing a candybar as you do it. You're just asking to get in trouble.
You can report anyone for anything. Just say it was offensive and they misgendered you or some ♥♥♥♥. Instant repercussion.

Yeah, instant repercussions for you when they check the chat log and see that you're abusing the report system.

That's what I wanted to say to them but I thought it best not to feed an obvious troll. :/

TIL reporting something you find offensive is a bad thing.
I'll be sure to write this down.

There's nothing necessarily rule-breaking about it until you start using third-party items/software to do it. I.e. if you come to your keyboard and hit a button every 14 minutes then you're fine. If you run a keyboard or mouse macro you're in violation as those items are against ToS, especially if using them to circumvent game systems (such as the afk timer).
Haha, I always afk and come back now and then and move a pixel.
100%, while SE is at fault overall, anyone staying logged in for more than 30 min while not actually playing needs to legit fk off.

And how exactly do you differentiate between a player pressing a button every 14 minutes and a macro pressing a button every 14 minutes?

I don't but SE has the actual log files with time stamps that will show if it's "roughly" every 14 minutes or exactly every 14 minutes 3.23 seconds, one of those screams out "bot".

A player who uses a smart script like this isn't stupid enough to do it in public.

People are generally lazy and would create a script that goes off every 3 seconds such as -tankstance-turn-tankstance-turn-tankstance-turn etc.

That;s the annoying ones I keep seeing everywhere.
