Protip for queue "regarding server 2002 error"
So after battling the queue for the past couple days (strangely had very little issue on launch but here we are) I have discovered that if you don't immediately relaunch the game after getting hit by the 2002 error that it will dump your queue position. It seems to be about a 2-5 minute time-window before it dumps your queue.

Hopefully SE will revise this and giving people a longer time-window to get back in there spot as most have families and can't monitor the game 24/7 when they're having to wait out 1-2 hour long queues. The error 2002 wouldn't be that big of a deal if you could get right back your queue, login issues is understandable with the amount of players hammering the servers, having such strong filters that cause players from losing there valuable time isn't.

*Edit: Hit with a new error after waiting 2 hours with this method "Sorry there is an issue joining the Lobby" at 9th in queue, relaunched quickly as usual and put me at the back of the queue again..... SE FIX THIS ASAP. Having to battle these errors for 5 hours with no chance of taking a break with the possibility you might lose your queue is absurd.

Damn... that's odd. Using a VPN, or any other software? Curious why there is a difference...

Might be different errors. I just got something about an issue with the "Lobby" error (never seen this before mind you).

That is what I usually get too. Error 2002 is very common place for me. Typically see it 3-4 times per attempt.

It's the same error. I can't get to the character screen without getting booted out now lol. What's happening is when there are more than 17000 players trying to log into a data center at once it boots everyone out. I think if it gets bad enough they have been closing the log in server entirely for a while to make changes.

Edit: They mention aether specifically on the news page... Guess I really am wasting my time trying to log in lol.

"The first occurs when attempting to log into a logical data center (such as Aether or Primal) and there are more than 17,000 players in the login queue. This leads to an Error 2002 occurring, resulting in being unable to enter the login queue."

I'd rather they do that then people wasting hours of there time even trying to get in to play for a couple hours. You can't even afk for more then 30 minutes in-game anymore before getting booted so likely chance most will continue dealing with the login server bloat.

This error only further hurts the server congestion when you're forced to relogin every 15-20 minutes, thinking of 17k people having to do this would kill any server.

It's basically impossible for me to log in anyway, the servers themselves might as well be closed for all the good it does me. I managed to log in once since endwalker released, in the morning, and I only had an hour before I had to go to work.
It is more like a 60 second window. If you hit the initial 2002 error when trying to log back in to retain your position, you are going to be too late. Enjoy the back of the line!

yeah theres to many people and so little sever space wish they would have expanded the server space in the game..

Blizzard suffers from this during every expansion launch as well. News flash, even they don't go out and buy new servers to handle the increased traffic.

This is true, but this gradually changed, especially in cata and did server merges, as well as adding in cross realm sharding which greatly reduced this issue. Now maybe SE should think of adding in more servers, and they are aware of this issue, apparently, but chose to do nothing[/] about it. This in itself is an issue and needs to be addressed. And the game getting popular because of big streamers didn't help them at all.
Problem being, even with the issues with WoW's expansion launches it usually gets rectified after a day. It's been 2-3 days now and no ETA on when these login issues will be fixed. Mind you blizzard has dealt with crazy server congestion far longer then SE has so they have learned from prior instances of login issues. Diablo 3 still goes down in history as the worst ever launch with server errors.

I won't lie, I was thinking of that launch as I tried to log in the last couple days. It is basically the same thing for me, considering I can't log in because I always get errored out of the queue before I get even halfway through it.

Idk if it's just me, but there seems to be a pattern for when 2002 error hits. As if this new "anti-afk" seems to have hit the login, maybe waiting in queue too long sees you as a bot and throws you out of the game with whatever strict measures SE has put on the server side. But then again you can get hit by error 2002 back to back when trying to relogin.

Conspiracies aside, fix the damn login before people start sending refunds.

At this point just lock the login servers down to give enough time to fix the error. Peoples sanity can only go so far before they start sending mass exodus of hate, you can prevent that with making the right calls.

Adding an additional server to each data center would of def been the play here, with the games population increased by a factor of 2 you would think SE would take proper precautions.

You can't find server equipment right now. And everyone that has access to the levers of power flipping out over the Virus Lrrr from the Planet Omicron Persei 8, new lockdowns seem to be a forgone conclusion at this rate in some countries making matters worse.

That surely doesn't help with the current state of things and makes sense why companies are reluctant in investing in better server equipment.

But still, it's 2021 with over half the world online right now, you can make simple decisions that even a low hanging fruit IT person would tell you that halting congestion to the server temporarily would be far more productive for both party's being the devs and players.

They have been trying to source more servers, but they can't. It's not about wanting to, its about being able to. As someone who works for Microsoft/Amazon (contractor) I can tell you that everyone is having this issue, not just Square. Thinking it is as easy as buying more servers is ignorant.

Sorry thats not it. I logged back in within 30 seconds and lost my place 4 times now since Thursday. Since this didn`t work on me i just close the game and leave it be. Today I went from 1k to 5k to 7k and everytime i logged back in nearly in an instant and I never got my old placing.

Odd. It has worked for me past 3 times just in the last hour, and everytime I had left the queue with the error hanging it was always back in line. Are you restarting the launcher by chance, or using a 3rd party launcher?

Confirmation bias is a hell of a drug.

You have to be immediate. There is no 5 min window. That didn't work out for me or FC members.

You have to do it soon as you see the DC hit you. I would say 1 min or 2 at best. You delay any longer than this ..you will be at the back of the line.

I have gotten in everyday so far by doing this. Put laptop on stand next to me, watch some TV till it hits me.

Today alone I DC'd 4 times in a row and NEVER lost my place in line using this method of quick log in response.
