How do I learn self-destruct

I'm trying to complete my blue mage book but while fighting gliding bombs, I keep letting them self-destruct but I still don't learn the spell

It's rng. Also be sure to fight the right bomb because not all bombs will let you learn the spell.

It is not rng, in open world it is 100% guaranteed. It just has to be the correct mob and correct skill. Because they have different "self-kill" skills

I've heard this before but I don't believe it, it took me way too many Vanguards to use their drill cannon ability on me before I ended up learning it.

I can hands down say it's not 100% guaranteed from experience or it's broken.

Make sure it's Self Destruct and not Detonator (both have the same animation but only one actually counts and kills the glide bomb)

You are clearly not educated enough in the subject. You don't even need an ability to hit you. You just need to observe it happen. Second of all, there are several types of Vanguards, even in one location, which all have a variety of "drill-related" abilities. I'm sure, that you were either fighting wrong vanguards and/or counting every ability they used instead of needed one

You're assuming completely wrong, there was a queue of players apparently crowding the wrong vanguards 👍 I used a list, the abilities didn't hit me and the learn rate was not 100%.

you need the exact ability, not any ability. The rate is 100%, try googling man

I just googled it. Open world spells and Masked Carnevale spells are RNG. The only 100% spells are from synced dungeon/raid runs.

Well, I googled it too and can't find, where it says that. If you levelled your BLU mage when everything was RNG, yes, but we are talking about current situation. Since then BLU's rates were patched several times. I levelled my BLU less then a week ago. I have 47 skills, all of which are open world excluding a couple needed for Coils run and a couple needed for BLU quest. I got all open world ones on the first try. Didn't even now it can be random, until went unsynced to get one skill. Still got it on my first try, though, lol

Well, it's easily misunderstood at this point but me being on the other end of the luck spectrum had me standing next to one of those akklu (?) Penguins on blood beach trying to learn flying sardine for a good 30 minutes quite recently.

Its RNG. You can see the skill on the correct mob a dozen times and not get it.
