I haven't touched this game since 2018. Over the holiday sale, I purchased the bundle of all the expansions.

Today I logged in and purchased a subscription. When I log in, I get the above message.

My existing character is in this account and my Steam Played time is 60 hours. What am I doing wrong?

if you have gametime and you get this message, you are using the wrong launcher. If you bought the game on steam you need the steam launcher, if you bought it somewhere else you need to ghet the Windows launcher :)

But the steam launcher only brings up the CD key and wont launch the launcher. Any tips?

Check on mogstation if it says a Realm Reborn (Steam) if Steam is not in brackets you have the windows version

Thank you. It was a bummer because that's the second time I bought an expansion on Steam before realizing I had previously bound my license to Windows. I can't get a refund because of playtime, even though I haven't touched any of the expansions and likely left the launcher on.

I'd finally playing the game after a damn many set back....now i got a other one,i created my again with a diffirent email from my steam ver (cause wanted it to be separete) wanted to play it on steam trial for some damn reason i needed a register code (don't know why i needed it for trial) since the noob i am got somehow now able to play it on trial steam.

Now playing in window ver trial but when i will buy the game on steam will i have the same problem again?

I have the same problem and i check my mog station it says steam and i am stilling getting the same message after trying to log in via steam

If you have a valid steam account with an active subscription, and you are using the steam launcher, look up the CFG edit to get it to go to the login screen instead of registration screen

And your 100% certain it says Standard (Steam) and not just Standard? because that's the error you get when using the wrong launcher (unless you haven't resubscribed yet)

Out of curiosity, how are you attempting to launch the game?
A while back they updated FFXIV on Steam Client to where you can't open and log into the game outside of Steam's launcher or shortcut that launches through Steam. That message also usually occurs when trying to do so.

Actually when i launch the game on steam it gives me the option to choose which version to play 1. starter edition 2. is the lastest expansion ( which i pick) but neither of them works, by the way i have no subscription to the game, is not it free to play?

Im having the same issue. I was under the impression that I could play for free until lvl 60? Im now lvl 31 and i started getting that message after five days.

Try downloading the program "Steam Edit" online, then open it up, search for Final Fantasy XIV, and choose edit. Remove the argument "-issteam" and save. That should fix it.
