FINAL FANTASY XIV Online
So I tried WoW.
I thought I would give WoW a try. So many people play it I thought it must have something.
The one thing it has done for me is appreciate FFXIV more. It's light years ahead of WoW.

I honestly don't know why so many play wow, now that you have far better options.

I gave classic wow a go and gorra say it is so much better than the new wow I was playing, but, it is showing it's age.

FFXIv reinvented itself and came up a winner. Wow reinvented itself and done something, not quite sure what.

Classic WoW and the upcoming Classic Burning Crusade is not a reinvention if thats what you were referring to. Its a way for people to play the game (almost) exactly as it was years ago. There have been all sorts of changes to WoW over the years. Minor changes, major changes even a lot of removed content. Class changes, gear and weapons, quests, etc. Lots of stuff that you see in classic servers are no longer available on regular servers.

Roll a level 1 caster in classic WoW and you'll notice that after only a few spells you will run out of mana. In retail WoW roll that same level 1 caster class and you wont have the same problem. Mana management was a thing way back then but somewhere along the way devs decided that they did not want mana management to be that big of a thing anymore. Go roll a level 1 hunter on classic WoW and a level 1 hunter on retail WoW. Their resource under their health bar is different. Hunters used to use mana as their resource but that eventually got changed to a resource called "focus" which regenerated a lot faster, much like a rogue/feral druids energy. When they launched the Cataclysm expansion a lot of the Eastern Kingdom and Kalimdor zones were revamped. A lot of the geography got changed and new quests were made.

i tried wow recently aswell, the only thing wow really does better than ff14 is the pvp and bigger open areas but the gameplay and menu's, without addons, feels super outdated, don't really understand the appeal to newer players

Yeah I was talking about wow reinventing itself not classic wow. Your not really reinventing something you not changing.
Saying that, you could say classic wow is a reinvention of the wow reinvention which would be a invention.
I love helmets especially the ones that hide eyes or most of the face, though if it shows the mouth area what ever as long as the rest is gone including hair. I can find massive amount of helmets that do that for me in WOW in this game hah lol there are a few for sure but half suck bad they are basicaly designed to look like low level gear because how bad they look, and for most part there not many helmets for non armour classes like blm, dont get me wrong there enough to at least get me some ideas for how to glamour using them but the options are definitely limited compared to what I could find in wow so no both games offered something for everyone but also lack things people would want. Wow has more armours and 100000x better transmog system. ff14 has better visual armour since its not spandex most of the time but actual 3d modeled armour pieces yet which really stand out but when you got constraints like full helmets are a must :D your options on armour that fits the good looking helmets drops to very low numbers but even with wow non 3d armour the share amount of stuff you have to chose from lets you at least create many fitting outfits using single helmet as the base.

People play games that offer what they want more off just because you dont like one flavour does not mean no one likes it

y0 dawg, i herd you liked reinventions...

For current WoW? yah, over the years they keep adding new systems and taking systems away. Adding - taking - tweaking - breaking and so on. Its the never ending quest to obtain the holy grail of online gaming...the gold plated hamster wheel that keeps us all playing (and subscribed for 14.99 a month) forever.

From an objective perspective, wow is way higher quality than ffxiv. I don't say this to take jab at ffxiv, but wow has such an extremely huge budget and people in the dev team who have all been working in the mmorpg genre for like 20 years.
From gameplay perspective WoW is way easier to get into as a new player, especially by its fast paced combat, satisfying level progression and skill / feature unlocking, which is complete opposite to what ffxiv has, since it focuses on introducing you to the story for 90% of the early game.

I've been playing wow for about 11 years now and just recently started ffxiv but damn the leveling was one of the most boring ordeals I ever had to go through in any game.

No joke, FFXIV is one of the hardest MMO's to get friends into without them quitting early/midway through ARR.

There's various reasons for it, and people love to disregard any criticisms the early game/start has. They've done a "tiny" bit to help, but removing 13% of ARR quests isn't gonna cut it.

A lot of people I know, including myself, have moved on.

And yet the game is still living rent-free in your head.

yep, I love the game <so far> but I literally had to push myself through the levelling above 20 because all I did was basically watch cutscenes and people talk about some war and warriors of light that fought beside them, while having absolutely no clue about the world in general or who am I talking to really, because all the npcs do is introduce themselves in 2 sentences and that's all you know about them for the rest of the gameplay.

levelling in wow is so fun i still do it to this day even if it means deleting few of my old inactive chars i used just to level them lol. but to be fair, if wow had a smiliar leveling system, I'd still level through it because I already have strong connection to that universe, so ffxiv fans might feel the same and not find it obnoxious like new players do

ARR or the 1-50 was the most boring experience in any mmo I ever played

So much this. Moving on =/= Going to forums to harass everyone who doesn't agree with delusional and irrational nonsense and finding allies to do so in gang. If anything, that is known as trolling. It's not a question of having an opinion anymore. It's about attacking a game and its community with only purpose to shout "Stop having fun!" at them. Sad...

Koishi will never move on. They simply can't. FF14 will forever be their mental prison...

Not to mention the constant complaining about "omegacasual content" (Whatever that means) despite also admitting that he had to pay someone to carry him through one of the easiest EX trials in the game.

WoW is way more fast-paced. Also, people like myself have played it for 16 years, so we have invested quite a lot of our time into the game. If you still find it fun, why quit? I play both but FFXIV is just too slow sometimes with the slower GCD.

I also cannot ever see myself wanting to PVP in FFXIV. WoW has great PVP.

Clearly though, a game doesn't have to be newer to be more popular. You realize how many people still play Minecraft on a daily-basis? I can't understand because I find Minecraft boring as hell. I'd take Terraria any day of the week. But maybe it's also just that I'm from the Genesis/SNES generation and don't have the nostalgia for it.

If this was your first MMO then I could see preferring this, but WoW clearly is still the champ for a reason. This is why I just play everything and enjoy the different aspects of them all. No idea why people are such obsessive fanboys these days.

People want to be a *part* of the *winning team* so if they play X, people will fight tooth and nail saying X is the best and Y sucks.

Though, of course, it depends on the playerbase fanaticism. WoW players usually make fun of their own game and devs often, but you'll NEVER see that in FFXIV. Most games as a matter of fact, its players make fun of the game they play and/or its devs. You see it with GW2, you see it with Runescape, WoW, but for some reason FFXIV is the only game where you're not allowed to do this.

people are memeing and calling yosheep things all the time. its definitly allowed to do so.
fanboys just get more butthurt over it here than other mmos i guess. overly sensitive i guess?

In xiv this is just extreme compared to other mmos though. Like literally say or do anything beside sing praise about the game and watch all the dev simps crawl out of their holes to report you
