Lol @ using summoner and simple together. Summoner has a long rotation that is anything but simple.

And like every job, the rotation changes every 10 levels.

get comfortable with the GCD rotation first. Once you are comfortable with that, learn how, when and why to use all the oGCD abilities.

on paper, yes, on practice, no. Late game bosses keep moving and players need to do mechanics, so need to improvise.

SMN takes a small second to figure out, like every job and then it's smooth sailing.
There is a very strict 2-minute rotation at Level 80 that you can easily find online. Honestly; before level 80 it's okay to not have a full-perfect-rotation.

Just start with your DoT's, Energy Drain/Siphon, your Fester/ Bane and have your pet attack every here and there to get your Further Ruin stacks. Be sure to try and time things so you can use your heavy blast attack before dreadwyrm trance ends. Summoning your Demi-summons will also reset Tri-Disaster, so keep an eye out on that and your Fester/Bane and Energy Drain and Siphon.

Remember to try and use your Gurada engi for groups, Ifrit for single target and Titan if you're new to a thing and want the def bonus from Stoneskin. Try to get into the habit of using Devotion if you see a raid-wide coming up and you don't have a barrier healer.

Like some one said though, in general, your rotation gets a little adjusted every 10 levels or so. SMN can really feel this. Early on your trick is putting a DoT on 12 enemies at a time and then hitting them all for extra damage with a chance to reset the DoT timers.
Later on, your focus is more about maxing damage by perfect timing and blasting your Demi-summons with weaves of Painflare and such.

If you're still here, tell us a little more;
What level are you at, how do you play currently and how do you think SMN would work?

So I'm Level 70. And I just don't really understand it fully. I did use a instant 70 boost on it.. but I'm coming back after being gone since havansword and I played dragoon then but fell in love with dots which is why I'm going summoner

(Give it a read, also try to join the Balance discord server if you want more info on all jobs)

Some important key aspects of playing SMN in general:
・Keep DOTs up as much as you can (Tri-Disaster, Hardcast Miasma into Bio when necessary, Use Bane against pack of enemies)
・Use Ifrit vs 1-2 enemies, Garuda when 3+ (Titan is a meme)
・Use Energy Drain (1/2 enemies) or Energy Siphon(3+ enemies) to gain 2 stacks of Aetherflow gauge, used by Fester(1/2 enemies) or Painflare(3+ enemies)
・Devotion doesn't mitigate damage/increase healing potency anymore, it's just a 5% damage buff for the party
・Actions & Traits -> Role: Swiftcast + Actions:Resurrection can save a party from a wipe

As other people said, before 80 it's okay to not have a perfect rotation.
Your goal(at 70) is to mainly do all the things mentioned above + using DWT(Dreadwyrm Trance) twice to be able to summon Bahamut, that's about it.

I... I don't know what to tell you really. Run Palace of the Dead from floor 1 to start understanding your spells and abillities? Run low level dungeons and slowly do higher level ones to see how your moveset changes over time?

You can ignore the rest of this post if you want;

This is the problem those boosts create. Now you're 70 and have no clue how to play your class. Just playing it would have taught all these things. Guides won't help you much because you might not know all the spell names or states you can be in as a SMN.

Practice on a training dummy a few times to get a feel for things before doing dungeons.
Just keep going back to the dummy once in a while to make sure you're not losing out on improving.

A lot of people never master rotations and just get a basic one that feels good enough.

Tbh that's not even likely to change as some people just don't care or aren't passionate enough about dps or rotations to invest time and effort into getting better.

Honestly summoner is that one job that even I have trouble grasping. Sadly each job has a set rotation. there's really no customization as to how you play each job. each job kind of reflects a certian kind of play style.

what I WOULD recommend is starting from dungeon 1 and going from there to practice. that's what I do when I'm trying to learn a job. I take baby steps and learn from the ground up. Honestly when it comes to arcanist jobs I just stick with scholar because I'm a healer at heart.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck with your learning tho. i'm sure you'll get there!
